What do you suppose a multi funny mall is? I found this backlit ad in the Seoul Dongdaemoon subway station. My first take is like "well, thank god! Finally a one stop shopping solution for the person looking to pick up a quart of irony, two pints of sarcasm, a box of slapstick, and a hogshead of black humor...

If we could only convince our students that fun DOES NOT EQUAL funny!!
But it does make for some fun (or funny!! ) signs!
I'm in the market for some puns and corny jokes! Wonder if they sell them there?? |

I KNOW!! Argh! It drives me crazy sometimes... Ive tried, and Ive given up. Im going to talk to the Korean teachers about it.
My students were saying to me "nice to meet you" every time I saw them, but they couldn't understand me when I tried to correct them. I took it up with the Korean teachers and 2 days later all the kids were saying "nice to see you".
The last foreign teacher here was fluent in Korean, and now I am here and can barely speak a word, the teachers tell me just how much english they have learned! They are almost fluent as it is, but for example, they would say to me 'I wanted to play with you this weekend but I was busy'. Not exactly typical conversation between adults. |

Sorry to sound like an ass here, but instead of convincing your students, teach it to them with lots of follow up later on. It seems to work for the better students. |

I was thinking the same thing. You know, one is a noun and the other an adjective. Quite easy to teach them the difference. |

Surely you meant one is a noun AND an adjective, while the other is only an adjective.
Actually, no -- they're both nouns and adjectives, and one is also a verb.
We had fun.
It was a fun trip.
I was just funning.
He looks funny.
He made a funny. (silly, but people do say it) |

Yep, I've explained (taught, if you prefer!) it...over and over and over....
Fun=rollercoaster
Funny=comedy
Basically "I had fun" OR "IT was funny". But....then we get into
"I was funny" (I made people laugh) OR "IT was fun" (I had a good time).
Sigh.... |

 (funny) vs. ִ (fun) |
