I met (and was interviewed by) Peter Jennings at the 1984 Republican National Convention. I thought he was a real class act. |

Hes the headline on FOX!!!!!
Im sorry the man has died but he is a journalist.Does that mean he should be a headline? Once again its news about the news. These people have too high an opinion of themselves and their own importance.Which kind of ironically makes them important
I dont necessarily mean the deceased.Im talking about the industry in general. |

Once again its news about the news |
There have been extended reports, usually leading off, on every news show that I've come across tonight. I agree with your point. This is an example of where reporters have become celebrities. |

Except I think Peter Jennings is newsworthy. Pretty impressive story: never graduated from high school and managed to be the top-rated anchor on TV for around a decade. |

When the word 'celebrity' encompasses the likes of The Osbornes, the Hiltons, the Simpsons, the passing of a class act like Jennings is most definitely newsworthy.
Just saw a funny 5 second bit at the end of The Daily Show:
Jon Stewart and Peter Jennings are both seated and browsing through copies of Tom Brokaw's autobiography. All of a sudden Jon's face lights up in amazement and he exclaims "Oh my God! It's like it was written by a child!!!"
Peter doesn't take his eyes off the page as he chastises Stewart- "It's not polite to laugh"
All in good fun (maybe you have to see it to get the humour... ) |

Too true. Besides, Peter Jennings was always my favorite news anchor. Remember Sept 11 when he was on for like 2 days straight(OK, maybe not, but seemed like it)? Can't imagine how he held together. I also liked how every now and again he'd be reading an especially trivial and rediculous piece of news and he'd either start cracking up or he'd get this little glint in his eye that said, "Yeah, I think this is a stupid as you do, but I have to report it."
All in all he was smart and classy.
RIP Mr. Jennings. |

I see the laughter in that and I respect Peter more. He is saying that others might giggle as heartlily over his own memoirs, should he ever have written them ...
A sane and thinking man strives for the wisdom that lies between the minds of kindergarten children and the studious devotion of monks. I decided a while ago that abstaining from the world as it is represents a big mistake on the part of monk, so I've been looking for the wisdom that my kindergatenstudents can teach me ... I'm here to tell you, it's a path that works better than others I have tried.
I like Mr Stewart because he seems to attain a balance between these extremes. (Not always, but most of the time.)
And balance is importance for those of us primates who think walking upright is a worthy goal. |

Peter was the guy you wanted to go to for all the good as well as the bad news. He connected with you in a way that language cannot express. Somehow he made the news a bit more tolerable unlike some mental cases like old Dan who at one point kept ending his stupid broadcasts with "courage". Did you know that the French do that?
RIP, Peter. I know youre in a better place. |
