I think soldier deaths were a little over 600 when he made the joke. |

anyone know when Bush made that Joke?
He probably made it well before those soldiers were killed.
Which means he wasn't joking about things after they died.
|
According to David Corn's blog, the joke was made in March 2004. By that point, 500 or so American soldiers had already died.

Never attempt to reason with people who know they are right.
Agree or disagree with Bush (or tolerate or hate him, which is the choice those of us with centrist Democratic inclinations seem to have) you must admit that this video is heavily edited, with photos of dead servicemen artificially superimposed over laughter that was, for one thing, not about dead servicemen -- or injured Iraqis for that matter.
Everything in its proper context, except in the world of propaganda...
Mith, how can you catch the fine distinctions in the Korean-Japanese pic and miss the glaring issues with this video? |

Well, in the case of the Korean-Japanese pic, it was an outright hoax. There was no such message painted on the sign.
With the video, it wasn't a hoax, Bush actually told those jokes. I don't think the person who produced the video was trying to claim that Bush had shown a montage of dead soldiers while delivering his monologue. |

The person who produced the video probably had two related purposes in mind:
to justify the hatred of Bush that already exists; to manipulate those who are weak-minded and manipulable in order to create more hatred of Bush.
It was not to inform, it was not a presentation of raw facts or insightful analysis, it played on our emotions, and it was deliberately inflammatory.
Leave it for the people who are into diatribes. It has no place in civilized discussion. |

The person "probably" had purposes...
Is that your idea of critical thinking?
Whatever purposes you think this person had, you sure are "liberal" with tossing about your own purposes.

So, is hatred of Bush justifiable at this juncture?
Who, after 5 years of this administration's manipulations, is being manipulated?
Without a response, you answer that quite clearly: Hating Bush is weak-minded. Or that, at the very least, is how you would characterize someone who hates Bush due to his joking about how his own BS reason for war is BS.
Apparently, the "strong-minded", like you, would choose to overlook the lies and half-truths your President has told you in favor of admiring his ability to joke about how he himself has fed the public crap about why he invaded Iraq. Moreover, this is the same crap he fed the American military about our purpose for invading Iraq.
Quite apparently, you are willing to overlook the fact that he was feeding crap to his own people and army in favor of what? That you like his ability to joke about himself.
As such, what is your definition of a "strong mind"? Answer: that you don't care what kind of BS your head of state pulls as long as people remember that "he can joke about himself".
To prove your point, you offer up some concept that Columbus didn't know that Native Americans were being raped, murdered, and otherwise brutalized. This shows A) that you really don't know much about Columbus's expeditions and B) you are offering up a ridiculous analogy from your "strong mind" to justify your affection for George Bush.

And what have you informed us of? Did this Gridiron Dinner not happen? Have these soldiers not died as the result of an invasion to "disarm Saddam"?
How can it be inflammatory if you're "flogging a dead horse"?

Yes, so it's not "civilized" to point out that people have died for WMD that heretofor don't exist. No one should hate our dumb uncle. We should just appreciate his ability to joke about himself.
That's what you're saying, and that is just as much propaganda as anything you label here as propaganda.
While we're at it:
Abu Ghraib
Gitmo
Torture
Arar
All things Bush has the power to control.
But hey, I like his ability to joke about himself. Sadly, he's not really joking about himself. He's making a joke of our country. MY COUNTRY. While you might fell civilized by turning such things into a joking matter, I DO NOT.
And Bush-apologists fall into the same realm as Bush himself.
And and, as much as you like him, you go on to call him a dweeb in another thread.
YOU trying to characterize HIM as a DWEEB?
HEY, I LIKE THE GUY. ARE YOU TRYING TO INFLUNCE THE WEAK-MINDED?
PROPAGANDA! |

Don't worry man. Just wait three and a half more years, and his brother Jeb will take over world leadership. I've heard Jeb is a much better public speaker.
What will the hippies make fun of, I wonder, if President Bush 3 doesn't flub his speeches? It seems like that's all they have for material on Bush 2. Hopefully Jeb will get a VP like daddy Bush's Dan Quayle to keep the liberals busy. |

Oh yes Gopher.
You go ahead and tell Joo.
What?
That you're a strong-minded victim of simplicity?
That you are practicing "civilized" and "critical thinking" because "you like Bush"?
Hey, Columbus sailed on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. So he raped some Indians. It wasn't the Santa Maria's fault. Give the guy a break. He's still the "Admiral of the Ocean Seas".
And, critically thinking, I like him. That other rape stuff is just PROPAGANDA! |

Sadly, I think you may not be too far from the truth.
The point isn't whether or not people hate Bush. He's proven undeniably that he is an incompetent Jack-ass and an embarrassment.
The point is: Why is this $%&%&/%(&/&%%& blubbering buffoon still in office?
Clinton lies about a BJ and that's enough to sink him, but this guy...........
what's it gonna take before people start to realize he has to go?
Just for the sake of national security if nothing else. |
1. I think it's quite "deniable". Bush is a good President, probably the best in my lifetime. Reagan was good, too, but I was pretty young then. I was born in the Carter administration.
2. He's in office because we elected him, just like we'll elect his brother Jeb in 2008. So much for term limits. I'm almost positive the next election will be Bush v. Clinton.
3. What's it gonna take? How about... a good reason? An alternative suggestion? |

It depends on whether I think the point is valid or not. Bush is still in power and so I think the video has a point. What would be tasteless would be jokes about his accent, that picture of him in school hitting the guy in the rugby match, that sort of thing. |
