I have been reading about possible changes to the F2 starting Sept.

It has yet to be confirmed and, as we all know, immi is not always the most consistant dept. but I am very curious to know if anyone has been down to an office of late.

Basically, the rumor is, that if you are on an F2 you are to be treated along the same lines as a F4 or korean citizen.

That would be nice if it's true.

Yeah, read that on efl-law. The original poster over at efl-law is not one of the law guys there. I really hope that this news is accurate, but I don't see it happening. The details are not making alot of sense to me, and there are two conflicting stories from different posters. I'll wait until I hear it from immigration myself, or Efl-law guy says it's true.

Grain of salt, please.

If true, then would this mean that F2 holders would finally be permitted to tutor? What do you think?

I think we would still be fined and maybe have a problem getting the F2 renewed.

I read yesterday in the Korean Herald that foreign women married to Korean men will soon be granted permanent residence in Korea. Is this perhaps the news that's causing the confusion?

I assume most of those women are on F2 visas - that being what the visa is really designed for - and I guess the new rules only apply to females.

Funny how the information on the immigration website concerning F2 visas only refers to wives of Korean citizens... kkk.

It used to be that F-2 was only given to wives of Korean men. Foreign men with korean wives were given F-1. There were and are subtle differences to the two.. I think F-1 is for visiting family and F-2 for dependence. And we all know how Korean people think that men are the ones that take home the bacon, so they categorised them as *visiting family members*; whereas women should be submissive and stay at home to look after the kids and do chores, thus they are *dependence*.

I think they've done away with these differences and just give everyone F-2 now.

Nail on the head! The system is sexist. Some years ago, Korean women married to foreigners couldn't get a F2 visa for hubby. Why? Simple, the woman must be the sponsor, and be able to work and take care of the hubby. But women can't get good jobs here, and can't support their foreign hubby, IN KOREA. Nothing more than that.

The change to the law about permanent residence concerns foreign women that have divorced their Korean spouse (afraid they will leave with the kids/can't wait for them to marry a Korean man again). Foreign men who divorce their Korean wife are still shown the door.
