What they really need is a single, unifying symbol ... like a cute cuddly mascot. Hell, even Incheon Int'l has a cuddly mascot. Why not Dokdo???
"Dokki!" Or "Pointy"... It could be rabbity-looking thing, with a pointy head, shaped like the islets themselves. And they could have a female counterpart to "Dokki", but she'd have two pointy parts on her chest.
Every cause needs a cute cuddly mascot. North Korea should look into it. It's too late for Benito & Adolf. But I think facsist tendencies, much like corporate greed, always go better with a big stupid smiley-face and big floppy ears on it. Or at least big red clown shoes. |

Korean family to swim a hundred kilometers to reach Dokdo
Dokdo, a set of volcanic outcroppings in the East Sea, is fast becoming one of the most favored destinations for patriotic South Koreans following repeated recent Japanese claims to the South Korean islets.
The Dokdo fever appears to further mount as the nation celebrates the 60th anniversary of its liberation from the Japanese colonial rule this year. A large number of people and organizations are planning events on the islets over the weekend to mark the Aug. 15 Liberation Day.

I can't wait! As a former competitive swimmer I've swum across a few lakes myself in my time as well as a number of swim-a-thon marathons.
100KM of ocean- er, sorry- Japanese Sea?
Anyone want to wager $20 they won't get more than 10KM? |

100km swim.. thats a long ways to go.. wouldnt surprise me if they stop the camera and let the guy rest,, or maybe it might be a tag team effort
one will swim 10km then the other does 10 etc.. one guy doing 100km
Its possible.. ive seen it done before on tv.. 24 hour swims eating bananas as you go.. one young girl swam the channel to france from england.. |

Promote Dokdo? As in Dokdo on a postage stamp? Yes. Or maybe Dokdo on Korean currency? Sure. Dokdo on a trinket that will end up in thousands of shoe boxes and dresser drawers? Well...
And to think one of my university students, one of the very who can actually communicate in English with a measurable level of fluency, was insulted when I told him Koreans are being manipulated by corporations who are using Dokdo to sell products. |

It's probably going to be a relay. My friends have done 24 hour relays in the Atlantic ocean, certainly more than 100km of distance was traveled, and that was in Canada, where the water temperature is colder than in Korea. Then again, I've never heard of great Korean swimmers. |

Your 'friends' will tell you that water temperature is far from the only factor for this kind of swimming.
And did they swim back and forth in a harbour or did they swim point to point in open seas?
Does this mean you'll take my bet that they don't/can't complete a swim to Dokdo?
Assuming that 'family' is no more than 5 people and no more than 3 adult males?
I can go as high as $75 if you'd like. |

I know, water temperature isn't really a problem once you're lathered up in vaseline or shortening.
Did I mention that my friends formed a 3 man team when they did that? How many swimmers will there be? 5? 10? 15 (heck, if I had to split the distance with 15 other guys, I might even try it myself). |
