Blah. So today I met my boss in Mapo. I'm the greatest, kids, love me, the sun rises and sets on my pale behind BLAH BLAH BLAH...but he wants to make more money. And how does a man who lives in a luxury officetel propose to make more money? By cutting my salary of course. Not to fear tho as he will get me a second job at a second school and put that one on my visa and ARC too. Which is actually fine since I'll be working just shy of five hours a day at my current job- I figure a part time gig will help and besides which I need to get back in the 9-5 grind. Questions:

1) Can my boss legally add a second place of employment to my visa and ARC?

2) Is he blowing smoke when he says Gyeonggi-do does not allow me to work both in an after school program and in the morning at the same school?

3) Is any of what he said legitimate in any way?

4) To add a new employer will I need to go through the sealed transcripts ordeal?

5) Why are contracts utterly and completely meaningless in Korea? If I get hired at 2.0, I'd like to stay there. It's not like the man is on his last plate of radish.

6) Totally unrelated by why does the Olive Garden in Sadang serve kimchi bokumbap?

If he does the paperwork and you bring it in to immigration.

The paperwork mentioned above includes a schedule, and you aren't supposed to work outside of that schedule.

In agreement with Beaver. In response to Question #1: DO NOT let your boss trick you into say "yeah, yeah, I talked with immigration and they said it's okay." The ONLY way it is legal is if you go to immigration with your boss and you actually witness the immigration official writing your second location on the back of the card. Your boss has no authority to write on the back of your ARC.
And don't be afraid to take a stand if he pressure you to work at this second location without immigration approval. I gave my boss a stone cold "hell no" look when he told me to work at some stupid middle school without immigration approval. Did he hate me and make my life more hell? Sure did. But at least I slept better at night knowing that immigration wasn't waiting for me with the handcuffs (they are the scary ones.) And immigration is more "saucy" than ever now...be careful.

Thanks for the info. He did say he would go with me to immi to do the visa thing right, but then, he says many things.

And my poll is a 3 way tie. YOU HEAR THAT HAWAJANGSIL AJUMMA! A THREE WAY TIE!

This is a good time to remember that dishonesty and backbiting are the universal values that bind humanity together.

Also, "yes" is at 44%, which amazes me. Given 1) the general tone of this board and 2) the general business and ethnic climate on this ROK, I expected, oh say, 74%.

Ahhh, time to resurrect a long dead thread. I came back from Hungary this afternoon to find my woori account 500,000 lighter than I expected. Called my boss in a rage. He claimed that we had agreed to this. We did no such thing. He will now as he put "pay me" 300,000 of what is owed and I get to keep my job. Neato! Now, 2 issues:

1) the job is good as far as jobs go. Public after school program, noon to 5, tolerable kids, good for the resume etc. I don't want to give it up. If you have leads on part time work in Ansan (yes, we will go to immi with my ARC and make it all legal- I'm not trolling for privates) PM me.

2) The boss is, well, average. Meaning he is pure excrement. I want to hang on until my ARC expires in January at the least. Then I want to do my CELTA- is there a site where I can do a search of CELTA courses world- wide by date? A database which shows when the next course comes up, regardless of location? Probably not, but may as well ask.

Unless you have never had a real job, there is no way you can vote for anything but #1. The hagwon scene in Korea is a cluster screw of major proportions. Everyone gets screwed-teachers, kids, parents and often even the owners. But so what? They somehow keep getting the teachers which tells me answer # 3 has something to do with it as well. The uni scene seems to be the only place that holds some semblance of normality but even there, it's possible for teachers to be screwed over.
IMHO this should just be considered a short stop on the road of life but if you want to make it your final destination, then you obviously accept the risks.

There is a certain happy-go-lucky hard drinking, pot smoking sort that can easily make this their lives work. I'm not that sort tho and want to get a uni job next year so I can start working on my masters while having a decent schedule and a reliable employer. Thing of it is, I need money for a CELTA course and don't think hopping around every 5 months is healthy for my resume even if I keep "falling up" as the expression goes.

By the way, that avatar is priceless. Where did you find it?
