Teens on Holiday Face Chastity Watch
Concerned social organizations have announced a campaign to guard the chastity of teenagers at holiday resorts along Korea's East Coast. The conservative groups including Hwalbindan, the Korea Dokdo Green Movement and the Senior Citizens Association of Jumunjin, Gangwon Province have been prowling beaches and entertainment places since Aug. 6 with the slogan, "Lose your virginity in a moment's carelessness and immoderate merrymaking, regret it for the rest of your life."
At night, they plan to snatch girls seen drinking with strangers in the entertainment districts of downtown Sokcho and Gangneung from the teeth of disaster. The groups said they were spurred into drastic action by a survey of about 200 male and female high school students as well as girls in their teens and 20s in bars, karaoke clubs, saunas and Internet cafes near the beaches, 65 percent of whom said they lost their virginity at summer resorts or nearby entertainment districts.

That's called kidnapping.
I know it looks bad for the mental health of Korean teenagers when you have dinosaurs trying to dictate what they can and can't do, but recognizing that teenagers want to have sex is the first step in admitting that Korean teenagers have always been interested in sex and that it's not a product of foreign influence. Maybe then, Korean adults will stop being so darn puritanical and have frank discussions about sexuality with their kids. Baby steps, guys, baby steps. |

A first year high-school student, a 29-year-old in a bar, what's the difference? Why not include a few high-schoolers in your unscientific study of clubbers just for dramatic efffect? I'm sure almost no Korean's intelligence will be insulted by such an approach. |
