Yeah, I had to be the slimy guy...my situation is that we were at an EHWA hagwon, 2.1, working saturdays.

The boss offered for next year 2.2, better appartment, no sats.

I was like, OK, I can pay all my monstrous loans off...but not working summer. I'm coming back in September. Then she was pressuring us, oh it's an emergency, you have to stay, blah blah blah...

then we got a newbie on the phone. There are many positive things about this school but also several negatives. Let's just say I was strongly encouraged to stress the positives due to the fact I could then go home for the summer.

Q's:
1.Should I push for more than 2.2? We have 125 hak seng and 3 foreigners, 4 korean teachers. Are they only breaking even or losing money or what?

2. Am I scum for accentuating the positive? I didn't lie about anything, just omitted certain realities. After all I'm coming back myself for another year (probably). But I really wanted to go home for the summer hassle-free, and without a Whitey the school would close.

3. What's this I here about collecting your 'pension'? Where do I go what do I need?

Sell-Out.
If you're gonna be a sell-out, at least go grand scale.
A sell-out for a wage a NEWBIE could make.
Pathetic...

Lets just say that I dont expect your school to be here when you do get back. From the sounds of it, they're in dire straits.

Hopefully your newbie is also reading this forum and discovering that when a foreign teacher gives them the hard sell, to run a mile Very Happy

My school has about 80 students, 1FT and 1 KT. Your school doesn't sound like it could be making too much money (if any). What do they charge the kids? Do the math, figure it out... it's not that hard.

In regards to pension - which country are you from 'cos that makes all the difference. Aussies have no reciprocal agreements with the Korean gov't and can't claim the money until 65.

Check out the EFL-Law Q&A section as it has info on claiming your pension.

Here's a link to the National Pension Corporation.

2.1 is fair

The difference between noobs and vets are not measured by the monthly salary, but by the conditions of work and extra bonuses.

I would rather work a 2.0 job, single house, mon-fri, 3 classes a day, 3 months of vacation, cool ass employer, and all the extra stuff.

THAN

a job paying my 2.5, shared dorm, mon-sat, split shift, 8 hours a day, 5 days of vacations, employer who could give a rats ass about you, and no extra stuff.

but Ewha? comeonbro, you can do better than that..... Wink
