|
|
I have recently applied for my CELTA course, and I'm scheduled to do a 50-minute telephone interview very soon. Does anyone have any experience with this? What should I expect? All they have told me is that we will be discussing my application form.
Thanks!!! |

My interview was done mano a mano, but the questions are probably similar.
I was asked some questions about teaching philosophy, my teaching background and what I would do in specific situations - sorry, I don't remember the exact questions.
I was also asked about a lesson I have done and why I did it the way I did.
My interviewer asked me about a couple of grammar points, ie present continuous or present perfect, and how to explain them.
I was also given a chance to ask some questions. I did. Being American, I was worried that my lack of British education my hurt me in the course. It wasn't a problem.
I don't think it's a fait accompli that you will be accepted in the course because they "wont (sic) turn down their own fee." People were turned down for my class and one student didn't complete the course, so there are no guarantees.
It's a good course - depending on the instructors - and very worthwhile.
Best of luck. |

Uh, the only questions that count are, "Do you know how much the fee is" and "When will you wire it to us?" If you get those two answers correct, you can guess that you are well on your way to having a certificate.
I did a "listen to the tape while you sleep" certificate during my last hibernation cycle. Not cheap, but easy. |

Uh, when and where did you get your CELTA? People were turned away from my course.
Just one more example of someone not letting the fact that they don't know what they are talking about keep them from posting on Dave's ESL Cafe. |

Haha. I like that.
Hamuhamu, their principal reason for the interview is basically so that you dont waste your money. It's an expensive course, so if they feel you're not suited, then they'll turn you down. If you are genuinely open to learning, have a basic knowledge of English language structure, and are really keen to take the course then you'll be fine. Do a little grammar homework, and be honest in the interview. If they turn you down its for your own good. |

Wow, the questions are a bit more in-depth than I would have expected, especially since from what I understand teaching experience is not a requirement for the course. I can imagine some people getting "What would you do/How would you explain" questions and just being like "I don't know - that's why I want to take the course." |
