|
|
What I need is a Banana Republic. Their pants are hands down the best pants I've ever worn, for both comfort and style, and I love their shirts almost as much. The clothes I brought from home need updating. In Seoul, I saw a little store "Banana Republic" store near a subway station, but I didn't even walk in because it looked more like the local mom and pop store by my apartment than a clothing store.
I checked their web site and they've got nothing listed for anywhere outside US and Canada. So maybe they don't exist in Seoul. But could anyone familiar with this type of style direct me to a store that I can find some similar clothing? You could compare their clothes to GAP or, if you are really sadistic, Old Navy. Basically, just simple, comfortable clothes.
When I walk by clothing stores, mostly what I see are ajoshi clothes or the gaudy, fashionable jackets and related paraphernalia/shirts young guys wear. Maybe the Korean guys can get away dressing like that, but I would look like a tool.
Where can I find some simple clothing?!
Cheers,

I think there's a store called, "Mango" that has several locations, including apkujeong, that would be right along those lines. The girls that went to the Ladies' Luncheons last year would know more. They told me that it was like a GAP, and had clothes that would fit Westerners a bit better than the average Korean clothing store.
Also try Coex mall. I remember seeing a couple of stores...WHO California or something? I remember they have orange letters for their signs.
Hope you find something! I always bought off of E-bay or had my mom get something I found via the store's website. She'd go buy it and ship it to me in one of those $9.00 flat-rate envelopes that you can stuff up to 4 lbs into. (US to Korea, 6-13 days) |

Mango carries womens clothes only and I believe the OP is a guy. WhoAU carries decent stuff, and Giordano is pretty GAP like. Good for khakis and sweaters and things like that. I'm fairly sure Daejeon would have both of those stores. |

Try going to Jamsil, Lotte Dept. store. In between LotteWorld and LotteMart there is a small store, you can see it from the front, called Meji, or Miji or something similar.
It is Japanese, and good quality (of course). The colours and styles are similar to BR and the pants all cost under 35,000won.
To get there, walk alongside the front of the building. It will be after Oriental Pub on the left (obviously). |

Sweet suggestions, thanks everyone.
I don't like the idea of ordering online, because you never know what something's really going to look and feel like until you try it on, but I'll definitely visit WhoAU and Jamsil next time I get paid.
Btw, yes I'm a guy.
Thanks,

I've seen these GAP/Banana Republic hybrid shops in Busan (Sfunz, Haeundae) and downtown Daegu, so there could be one in Seoul as well. I haven't been this disappointed in Korea since biting into a baguette filled with dduk. It's like they hand-pick the tackiest articles from last year's collections and hike up the prices by 20%. The clerks are extra clingy too. |

Meji is quite excellent, assuming you can fit into their clothes. Their sizes tend to assume you've got your standard Korean/Japanese body.
If you're more than a 32" waist you might find things a tight fit.
There's also a Meji at the Lotte Young Plaza downtown. The place is also good for funky little housewares.
Giordano is another store, based out of hong kong, that has some decent western style clothes and size up a bit more.
PAT is one of those typically shameless Korean rip offs. The logo looks a lot like the GAP logo. |
