The 3 guys were Korean-American- do you blame their Korean heritage or their American one, Dulouz? |

More specifically, the principals are all 1.5 or first generation Korean Americans (born and raised in Korea, educated in the U.S.).
The fact is that second-generation KA's, or ̼ (born, bred and educated in the U.S.), tend to avoid them like the plague.
Il-jum-ohs (1.5ers) have a reputation for combining the worst aspects of Korean culture (e.g., obsession with appearances, superficiality, class-oriented behavior, and a Machevellian cut-throat approach to life), with the crassest aspects of American culture (namely greed, materialism, and 'get-rich-quick-itis'.) |

I was just taking the piss out of Dulouz, but you summed it up very nicely here:

i happen to be a 1.5, born in Korea, raised and educated in the US and i am not as you describe.
why lump people together into broad generalizations?
oh and btw, i havent met a 2nd gen. so far that has avoided me like the plague |

Well good for you you peony if you're an exception. However, I doubt you are 1.5. If you, as you state, were "born in Korea, raised and educated in the US,,," you are NOT 1.5. Rather, you are 1.75.
For example, my cousin was born in Korea and came to the U.S. when she was two-years-old. She is 1.75 generation -- not 1.5. |

Yea, its bad here. I afraid Asians have bad ethics. Asia is the intellectual theft capitol of the world. That means China in particular. China is the mother nation of Korea. When people decide if teaching here is a good deal, they often exclude the "theft tax", that is employers stiffing the employee. This year so far my theft tax is 14% and that might be low. Its pretty bad. I've also watched students cheat so many many times. Thats bad too. |

"(The firm's personal masseuse drove a Jaguar X-Type that was provided by KL.)"
"...and in the corner of Mr. Kim's office was a $6,000 massage chair. The trading floor had large flat-panel televisions scattered throughout. "
"But like so many things at KL, not all was what it seemed. There were, for instance, the many faces of Mr. Kim himself. To KL's investors, he was charismatic and respectful. Several older men who invested in the fund are said by former employees to have treated him like a son. Inside KL, though, Mr. Kim's moods swung sharply. At times, he was extremely patient and friendly with the young traders, going to their homes for poker games. Some employees, however, describe Mr. Kim as an egotistical bully who would have fits of rage. "
"Last fall, a number of investors started to clamor for an independent audit of KL's funds. "We told them, 'We have to have audits done on this thing,' " said a person who invested in one of KL's funds in early 2004 but did not want to be identified because he did not want to be associated with the scandal. "They kept promising they would do it, but kept putting it off."
Gee.. this all sounds very Korean to me... perhaps they were closer to the motherland than most would think.
According to the article, he fled to South Korea. What do you suppose happens next? A Roh pardon?

I'm guilty of reading this thread and not seeing the other one; How I'll be able to live with myself now is a question that will keep me awake for many nights to come.
Ummmm. I was wondering.
How come you are ragging on me for posting in this thread but not ragging on Duluoz for starting another thread on a topic already previously opened?
Could it possibly be that you are as selective/inattentive as I am? |

Wow, so you analyze peoples characters using a distinction between the 1.5s and the 1.75s.
And you're the guy who was complaining earlier about "class-oriented behaviour"? |
