I'll be traveling around in Korea for two weeks and figure I'll be in the countryside and islands most of the time, and in bigger cities like Pusan and Kwangju for a couple of days. What's the best way to deal with money? Since the money comes in those inconvenient 10,000 won notes only, it's awkward to carry around stacks of cash. Here in Seoul I've been using Chohung Bank machines to withdraw cash from my home account (I usually withdraw large amounts at once as my bank charges me $3 each time). I also have a Chohung account that's empty at the moment and I suppose I could put some money in there before I begin traveling.

What's a good amount of money to carry around? What would you do?

Thanks!

the easiest thing would be to deposit the funds into the CHB account, but you can get 100,000W supernotes as well here ( if you withdraw large sums from ATMS they ask if you want cash or checks- those are the checks) .

Oh, yeah! I forgot about the supernotes, I've seen them around...

What are the advantages to withdrawing checks? Just that they are easier to carry around? Or are they more difficult for people to steal? (Have your name on them, require ID like traveler's checks?)

They're easier to carry around, but I seem to remember they're more difficult to cash.. It's been a while since I've had one though, things might very well have changed since then.
