Rolling Stones factfile
Mick Jagger has insisted that a song on the new Rolling Stones album called Sweet Neo Con is not about US President George Bush.

They were a good band, but they can't make music anymore. I guess this PR trick is is an attempt to make up for their lack of talent these days. |

( p.s. Johnny Depp has apparently recruited Keith Richards to play his father in the upcoming sequel to Pirates of the Carribean. Only problem now is juggling tour schedules etc. in order to allow for a few weeks of filming ). |

And "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" had nothing at all to do with sex, did it? |

Saw the interview on TV, he seemed to be talking out of both sides of his mouth.

But then the very next sentence out of his mouth is "It is certainly very critical of certain policies of the administration."
"No I'm not saying you're stupid, I'm saying that what you're doing is stupid."
Maybe Jager is born-again: Love the sinner, hate the sin. |

You can't separate the dancer from the dance!!
Jagger did speak from both sides of his mouth. Was he blaming the administration, but not the top administrator? My God! Political correctness has truly reached epidemic proportions.
You'd think that the great rock & roll rebel has more guts than that. Pathetic! All that SIRness has tamed the sh*t out of old Mick. Or maybe he's just old. |

Damn, you took the thoughts right out of my brain! They wrote the song, and the song is not subtle about who & what it's directed at, so why bother to try and back-pedal? Stones have enough clout (and used to have enough balls) where Mick could comfortably say- "yeah, I feel strongly about this so I wrote a song and don't give a toss if George doesn't care for it."
Could $ be the bottom line? Put out a song that 'really sticks it to the man' to sell albums, but backpedal on pre-tour interviews so the tour doesn't suffer from Dixie-Chick-itis? |

If after all these years money is still the bottom line for old Mick, than greed has taken on a new meaning as well. The whole thing is just sad. |

Anyone see Green Day's new video for "September Ends"? I guess you could call it an anti-recruitment video. |

Not followed any of the more recent stones stuff, but they're certainly too old to rock and roll now. Keith Richards looks remarly well for a lifetime of serious abuse but Jagger is a bit of a joke these days.
It is sad to see one of -without a doubt most historically- important rock bands ever reduced to their current state. They should give it up and go and live on their islands. Maybe just do some acoustic stuff if Jagger is still up to it. |

That's the carrot! I couldn't recall the album name at the time. I love the stones but they're getting a bit long in the tooth.
FYI. I had nothing to do with producing any stones albums, and I've never owned a phillips tape player only a Sony |

There are times when I can't believe people don't know when I'm joking ... yes, of course, two of their best singles were arranged and performed best as acoustic. "Wild Horses," and "Angie."
But when you talk about rockin' out, you gotta plug it in, dude, maybe even (gasp) get some horns involved. My favorite of theirs I think came from "Sticky Fingers," an album cover that that appeared a little too obscene for me to purchase until I went to college because it included an actual zipper that you could pull down over a photo of Mick in his blue jeans ... and I'll have to try to elude the swear filter by naming this song : "Bitch."
The other of my favorites is from "Let it Bleed." Although I sometimes allow my kindie students to call me a "Monkey Man" I deny I have ever quoted the full lyrics to this very fun song at them ...
Quote: |
I'm a fleabit peanut monkey
All my friends are junkies
That's not really true (...)
Well, I hope we're not too messianic
Or a trifle too satanic
We love to play the blues
Well I am just a monkey man
I'm glad you are a monkey, monkey woman
Monkey woman too, babe!
I'm a monkey! I'm a monkey!
I'm a monkey man! I'm a monkey man!
I'm a monkey! I'm a monkey! I'm a monkey! I'm a monkey!
Monkey! monkey! monkey!....... |

Jagger anti-establishment? Michael Philip Jagger has never been anti-establishment. He's of good southern middleclass stock and started out as a student of the London School of Economics... Don't forget his attempt to 'out-Tebbit Norman Tebbit' with his little gem 'Let's Work.' |
