Thanks, Wrench- I love men in uniform. Some of those guys were FINE.
Anyway, not a fun job, from the looks of it (guy on the stretcher looks pretty badly injured ). I wonder if conscripted SK police/soldiers receive compensation for certain injuries (e.g. losing a limb, etc.). Or if their families receive compensation if they are killed in the line of duty... |

the riot police actually have the TITLE of riot police, and yes trained but all they are is a young koreans doing their 2-year military service. i wouldnt call them professional cops. although they , sometimes, do difficult public work.
its funny whne i here them called actual "police" |

| The greatest irony of this demonstration/riot police culture is that it creates situations where Koreans beat up other Koreans over the Japanese embassy. Then again, North Korea probably has a thing or two to do with this. |

I read somewhere long ago that some korean demonstrations hire gang members to do the hard work in a demonstration. I mean to be in the fore front of the crowd taking and giving the physical damage. It might explain some of the violence.
It used to be done in the 30's in the US but with Mafia acting sometimes for the companies and sometimes for the Unionists. Anyway, thats just what I read somewhere. I can't be bothered to find it again as I figure its better to run away if you get near a violent crowd. They might beat you up if they are the protesters or damage you in the defence if they are the Police.
In a similar situation, a security guard I knew in NZ got pounded by the cops once when they were charging a crowd. Just bowled him, put him off work for a few days. So we were told, in that situation just get out of the police officers way, they are trained to plow anybody into the ground who gets in thier way. It sounded very similar to the training that NZ police were giving PNG police in the early 1990's. I knew at the time that it would probably come to NZ, but it is a very hard attitude and a very painful lesson.
I was warned by a Police Officer in PNG to just get on the ground and stay there if I got caught in a riot situation and just take any beating they felt like giving as if I was to try and get up they were trained to shoot you. He was very serious when he was giving me these helpful tips, so as he had gone through the training, I won't naysay him but others are welcome to prove him wrong. |

This shot looks great, if you listen carefully and imagine the sound when Fred Flintstone runs in one spot before taking off. Follow that with the Road Runner sound effect when he takes off from a stand-still, for good measure. |

its just all pointless.. what happens if north and south reunify? will the kids stop doing military service??? NO!! becuase they need to be pawns in this riot crap..
how come many other countries dont do this..
anyone see the GAZA strip pull out?? easy!!
if that was korea the riot guys would go in there looking for a fight!
so they provoke arguments and fights!
the riot police shouldnt be called! just let the people protest! let me sit outside and chant their songs! and forget it.. they will eventually just go home! but riot police coming with swords and shields! they are asking for the rioters to fight!! the korean government are so 3rd world its amazing!
korea has so many government problems if really needs to sorted out!
and why are the people rioting?? ask yourself that!! its for a reason!!
and governments dont want to deal with it.. so they send in their dogs!
I really want foriegn news agency to show all the riots in korea, and really show korea in a bad light! I mean over expose it!!
maybe then korea will change! becuase they will not like how the world is looking at them! koreans are real fast to change! they could fix this problem in no time if they wanted too..
its just stupid.. rioters and riot police fighting each other and killing eachother, hurting each other.. for a cause which they dont have any control over..
the rioters are fighting becuase of money , wages, etc..
and the riot police are fighting becuase there boss told them to go out and clean them up with force!! their own kind! other koreans! who are protesting because the government took away their jobs so they cant feed their kids!
GIVE ME A BREAK!! korea the 3rd world corrupted nation !!!
just a nation if lies!! |

difficult public work? difficult public work is when you have a manhole cover that just won't come lose. walking through molotov cocktails is in another category.
although i agree, they're don't really seem like cops from the (albeit propogandist) photos and videos i've seen of them. more like a goon squad. hate them or love them, you don't want to f*ck with 1001. |

When you put a big label on their backs that says, in English, "POLICE", you can't really blame foreigners for calling them riot police. |
