Yeah, I just read Tom's Hardware's long-term super-tough comparison of the AMD and Intel chips, and the Intel EE was the clear winner if you're into video, like me. Due to the Hyperthreading. The wording of you post makes it sound like you probably read the same information. Sounds like AMD is the clear winner if you just want to multitask here and there, but not constantly crunching video or encoding.
The prices of those two top chips are way out of my league, so I'd probably just go with one of the lower-end dual chips, or maybe some other Pentium with hyperthreading... still doing find and dandy on my Pentium 2.4b anyway.. no hurries, but would like to be able to have some faster ram, sometimes. Would need a new board and chip for that, anyway. |

Actually the AMD X2's are the best at multitasking compared to Intel chips. Ofcourse my dually rig back in Canada really does kick ass. I still want to get couple 275 chips for it.
Oh the Toms Hardware stress test is a farce. They falsified the tests, there has been countless amount of threads on other forums exposing Tom's Hardware for the liars they are. Tom's Hardware is the least credible review site on the internet. Just got to love it when they called the Intel system perfectly stable when they neglected to state that they fried 3 motherboards. (Oh also the Intel EE is over 1k)

Any way the dual core intel's have way more problems then AMD X2 chips. Intel never meant two p4's to be stuck on a single chip, AMD had that in mind when they built the K8.
And for final rebutle Intel is not the best for encoding or working with vids. AMD is the best.

Here is a link to some bench marks from Tom's. |
