"bad move"? not matching a 2-year, $7M offer for a guy who only plays half the season is a bad move? i think not. |

yes, yes, so sorry, so very sorry !! the leafs always make so many great moves that they can get rid of ANY talent they have!!!
say what you want, but everyone knows the leafs have made the stupidest trades and moves over the past 5 years to make anyone cringe. with the exception of a few. guys like belfour and roberts play well for them. but what do they do? lose ANOTHER player that helped them. im not saying mogilny is worth a lot of cash, just that they lose any talent they did have and then depend on 3 guys, o'neill, lindros and allison, which have A LOT to prove!! mogilny was their most skilled player actually!
and regarding the contract, its not that much to pay, considering the leafs missed the boat when all the good trades were taking place. they got those 3 guys cheap. so they should at least spend some cash on some proven people at least! |

so, pre-lockout, the leafs get flamed constantly for being too old and signing inflated contracts. yet, now in the "new era", we get younger and refuse to sign those same overpaid players and we still get flamed? c'mon.
check how many man-games were lost between the trio of roberts, nieuwendyk & mogilny. probably the same that we'd theoretically lose from lindros, allison & o'neill. i say we upgraded. roberts' leadership on the leafs was a tad overrated. some say he was actually a cancer in the dressing room and was the catalyst behind the team splitting in two a couple of years ago.
i like what the leafs are doing. keep getting younger and rebuild from within. our cap situation looks grim this year but, i believe, we only have 4 players under contract for next year (sundin, belfour, tucker, domi). lots of cap room to make decent moves in a year that will have possibly the best crop of free agents. |

are you drinking soju tonight or somethin man? getting YOUNGER??? hope u were kidding?? let's see, lindros, o'neill, belfour, domi, sundin. allison. yes a fountain of youth right there and if you knew about your team, roberts wasnt overrated. he , at least, put in 100% every shift and made a differnce come playoff time. losing a leader doesnt help the leafs any. the management are morons. these are the same guys who pay millions and millions of dollars , for a washed up guy like robert reichel????????? and the thing is, he doesnt do ANYTHING, no scoring, doesnt take the body, nothing! and they still play the guy game in and game out. what a joke! i cant beilieve it!!!! pathetic actually. i hope they didnt resign him. what's he doing to earn that kind of money? one would have to speculate, haha! and please no one say he was a "defensive specialist" like robert holik and his 9,000,000 a year contract a couple of years ago if you can sign reichel, you can keep mogilny for sure! actually, mogilny realzes he'll have a better chance winning else where. thats why he was happy to go to new jersey
and lets be honest, its NOT " theoretically ". its for certain they all will be out at least 20% of the season |

Some commentary from HNIC this October:
Bob: And there goes the pass from McCabe, to Lindros, across centre, over the blue line, Watch out!! Look out! Oh, what a check by Hatcher!! Lindros is down, Harry.
Harry: Yeah Bob, I see that I'm old but not blind. Looks like 88 is in some trouble with those 300 concussions he's had. Here comes the Leafs medical staff.
Bob: We'll be right back.
<insert Canadian Tire commercial here >
Bob: We're back, looks like they are bringing out a strecher and taking Eric to the hospital.
Harry: Bob that was just like the Hit he took in Philly a couple years ago from Scott Stevens which was almost a career ender.
Bob: This sux, I have to wait yet another year to retire since the leafs chances for a Cup are gone again.
Harry: What the heck, lets have a parade anyway. |

yes. getting younger. compare the average team's age from this year compared to last. it's less.
look at the players on their way out as compared to those who are coming in. younger.

i do know about my team, but thanks for caring. as i said earlier, roberts was just as much of a cancer in the dressing room as he was a leader. it's a well known fact that he was the main culprit in the whole corson fiasco a couple years back which led to several others being gutted from the team.
so we lose a leader because we refused to overpay his buddy. oh well. the leafs have enough leadership/experience on the roster to take the hit. florida needed to get older/experienced. we needed to get younger. what part of that don't you understand?

if you ever watched any leafs games (which i doubt you ever have by the nonsense you're spewing), you'd know that reichel actually was a pretty decent player here. the only stipulation was that he wasn't producing enough to warrant the money he was getting. but, no worries, mlse has more than enough to cover a hundred sh*tty contracts.
| spidey112233 wrote: |

no. and...wait for it now...it's called...a SALARY CAP. it wasn't possible/logical for us to sign him to a 2-year $7M contract. that's the difference between now and then, genius.
| spidey112233 wrote: |

really? is that why his first choice was to remain a leaf? and that the only reason he didn't sign here was because leafs front office didn't even bother calling him? okay, then.

certain, huh? so if they should succeed, i guess you'll be eating crow by season's end? that is, if you can take the skin flute out of there for a moment or two.
even in the event that lindros and allison should get injured, i wouldn't really see it as a big hit (no pun intended). i mean, we only paid $2.5M on 1-year contracts for the both of them.
so, professor, anything else you'd like for me to enlighten you on? or do you wish to keep debating about things you clearly know nothing about?
toodles. |

poddubny,
Did you keep up with the free agent signings this past couple of weeks?
Next years FA crop will not be as good as anticipated. It will be smil pickings in fact.
The big names all re-upped long term (3-5 years).
While the youth movement by the Leafs is interesting it is not well supported as the Leafs, after 5 years of win-now at all costs policy have drained their minor league teams of all but a few prospects. What youth are we talking about here?
The Leafs are still old and now have lost mundo leadership with the departure of Roberts and others. Their whole season depends on:
Sundin (solid player)
Lindros (one hit away from retirement)
Allison (whiplash boy)
O'Neil (great pick up here)
Belfour (old, downhill and bad back).
They lost Leech on D and did not replace him. Ferguson played his cards strangely here. There was plenty of young or and early 30's talent out there and he failed to move on any of it.
The Leafs are in cap trouble this year but next year they might be in simple talent trouble as they have no real budding young players pushing up the ranks. |

| I remember the NHL. Didn't they used to play ice hockey? Didn't it used to be good? Didn't they used to have teams that actually saw snow in the winter? |

actually ALL canadian teams see snow EVERY year, and thats all that counts! screw the southern U.S teams!! they dont deserve to be there.
and no, the NHL WASNT GOOD! it sucked for the past 10 years!! last cup final that was exciting to watch was in 1994. N.Y.R vs. Van.
althought Calgary went to the final, the final itself sucked! sorry flames fans |

Seeing as Detroit is Windsor's biggest suburb, I'm going to include them into this ranking..
As long as they can re-sign Datsyuk and Zetterberg, they're still going to be golden.. and yes, I like the Osgood/Legace goalie tandem.. |
