hi. well my friend wants to come over asap to teach and im trying to help. my school doesnt need any more teachers at the moment, so i dont know how or what to do more to help? i mean, i dont know if he should go through a recruiter and sign the contract before coming OR sign it and get his ticket sent to him. he needs the ticket coz i think he doesnt have the cash to fly over hee at the moment. so i guess he'll have to sign the contract via emails and phone calls.
i know Dave's has lots of job listiongs, and he has beem contacted by some. but other than the online job offerings, what else could i do to help or to find a good school for him? i suppose i could scope out the future school that he signs to. but i's rather he not sign until we seen the school, apt. etc. i know WHERE the good locations in seoul to work, and what to ask for in the contract and such, but if my friends in canada, what else can i do to ensure he signs a good deal IF he does sign from back home???
any advice is appreciated!! |

If you want to help him, arrange to talk to current FTs and check out the school and the housing for any potential positions.
Sounds like a pain in the arse, but what are friends for... |

I recommend somewhere *in* Seoul, unless you specifically *don't* want to be in Seoul. Being stuck here in the suburbs where it takes an hour to get into town and I can't get a train home after eleven PM really puts a damper on the social life. |

of course thats a HUGE factor that i've already thought about. a lot of people like the more quieter burbs. but coming to korea the first time, i'd rather be where all the action is with ease to get around especially where one will have to take the subway everywhere. which is very time consuming living far away. my friend knows this as well |

Yeah but be careful, they will tell you it's in Seoul or Busan if it's really in a suburb, and if you question them, they'll say "oh it's just outside". Don't press the issue, the recruiter has no power to move the school, and if you try to "haggle" with him on the location point you're just going to get lied/exaggerated to. Simply say "no" and "call me when you've got one in a downtown area" |
