Quote:
A leading Israeli rabbi has proposed hanging bags of pig fat in buses to deter Muslim suicide bombers who may want to avoid contact with an "unclean" animal.

The idea was suggested to police by Rabbi Eliezer Fisher.

The newspaper Maariv said rabbinical authorities had sanctioned the plan to use the product - considered impure by Jews and Muslims - if it might save lives.

Police had no immediate comment on the proposal, according to Reuters news agency.

Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Yaacov Edri said he supported the proposal.

"If bags of pig lard will prevent zealous Muslim terrorists from carrying out attacks, I'm all for it," Maariv quoted him as saying.

I remember they once talked about burying the bodies of suicide bombers wrapped in pig skin. Sounds like a more practical solution than pig fat on a bus.

It is said that during the Spanish-American war in the Philippines, the Marines would soak their bullets in pig lard and bury any dead Muslims(there was a small Muslim insurgency as well) in pig skin....supposedly it worked quite well Very Happy

I wonder how many minutes it would be before some Israeli teenager whipped out his bag of pig lard and tossed it at some old Palestinian woman who was getting on the bus too slowly.

Although being from a major hog producing state, I can see where farmers here might support the development of a new export market.

Don't the Jews have some similar silly superstitions about swine too? Sounds like cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

Except it hasn't worked in Israel/Palestine. A month or so ago, rapier thought it had but then I came up with about 5 links showing it has been ineffective.
