What I really wonder is why is rock so dead in Korea yet seems so vibrant and alive in Japan, China even? Sometimes I'll even see a "rock" band on TV here and they spend 20 seconds doing headbanging then swing all gay-ballad on you.....I've asked Koreans about this and most seem to say, well, Koreans like nice little tunes with castrated men singing about their ex-girlfriends and all.....that all good and all, but why can't it turn out like this??
Guess I'll find out in 2 weeks when I hit Tokyo...a--e---shee! |

I tried to find some rock clubs last weekend and just ended up at M2 again...sigh...any help to find those rock bars would be madly appreciated. In....Need....Of....ROCK!!! |

When I was arts editor for my university newspaper back in 1991 we used to get a lot of free tapes for review. The record company sent me a tape by an up 'n' coming Aussie rock band called "The Baby Animals". It was so mind-blowingly dull that I realized rock 'n' roll was truly dead. My next piece of evidence was comparing the play lists of Toronto rock station and Toronto's alternative radio station. They were nearly identical. |

well the rock tigers are playing on Friday with Crying Nut at drug club, so you're out of luck this week. Watch the website though, they're a hardworking band- here's a recent show of theirs

This website shows the punk/hardcore/oi scene in Seoul-

There are loads of bands, loads. Here's one I'm into - http://blog.naver.com/delightfunk/20015993776
It's been a bit hard for them since the couch stuff, and clubs closing, but Aura is not an older persons bar, for example.

So that was it for you then? Rock and Roll was dead from that very point? |

i like hip hop- but most of what passes for hip hop these days is utter shite. give me NWA any day over Ja Rule or whatever crap people listen to in Apgujong (and in our own countries too, lets be honest) |

Hey Mount Real - if you're looking for rock n roll clubs, there's a tiny punk hole called 'skunkhell' n Hongdae right across from Route 66. Checked out a Korean punk band there a couple of weeks ago - it was pretty intense. Lots of punked out k-kids skanking and slamming, and the band was pretty crazy. It's no Foufounes Electriques, but it was entertaining. |

Nice I'll be sure to check it out. Damn, Foufounes was my first club ever! Ahh, the underage memories....Is this place pretty big? Regular rock nights too when there's no band? |

A quick question: how many here would label a band such as 'Guitar Wolf' or 'Rock Tiger' as great -- cutting-edge even -- and label a band such as 'The Hives' as poseurs.
Only asking.

Mount - the club is as big as the Foufounes coat check room, and it's got NO ventilation. I dunno about a regular rock night there.
Tiberious - I personally wouldn't label the Hives poseurs. They have ridiculous amounts of energy - it's like they're all 16 and in their first band. People call them derivitave, but who isn't, until you invent new chords. Guitar Wolf rock nations. |

Yes, and music historians have pinpointed its demise to the first utterance of Korean word 'Saranghae!' in a pop song.
