OK... First rule...
Let's not turn this into a bashing thread. There are plenty of those out there already.
Also, if I didn't put your homeland in the poll, forgive me. There are only so many poll options...
Let's just keep it positive. Where are you from and why do you like it? I know the poll is meaningless since most of the people here are from Canada, but just so we can all have a general idea of percentages, do the poll anyway...
I'll start. I love America because the people are genuinely nice. The scenery is fantastic, and you can see whatever you want. From the crystal waters of the Keys to the beauty of the Great Smokey mountains, whatever you want is there.
Buttermilk buscuits, grits, country ham... Girls who won't leave the house until they have shaved (Insert shavable area here ) Girls who will take a hamburger from a drive-through and wrap it so that you won't spill anything on yourself as if you were a baby (Sometimes a little pampering is good...)
Big yards, as well as big houses. Meals that include bread and potatoes. Real national pride... Strip clubs... Los Vegas...
Anyway, those are some of the reasons I love the States. Why do you love your country? |

Can I cheat? I hate my country and wish it hell.
Okay, in the spririt of this "current events" thread, I like the departure lounge at Johannesburg International Airport, even though I worry about about being shot for my carry-on luggage just as I'm leaving the pleasant place. |

I like where I'm from because it's where I'm from. In spite of what somebody like Rapier might say, I didn't have any choice in the matter.
If I were from somewhere else on the list then I'd probably like that better. Except South Africa. I trust Buddy to be an expert on his country and would heed his advice.
I'm just glad that whatever higher power there is chose 'here' for me instead of Rwanda, Somalia, Albania, or North Korea. |

You heartless beast - you left out New Zealand. I hear that place is pure hell - they're even struggling to understand one another over there. It's tough when you say "sex beers" instead of "six beers" - a Korean told me that it's the primary cause of homosexuality over there, so it must be true. |

That's funny, I went on holiday with some south islanders once and honestly couldn't understand half the things they would say- it positively infuriated them.
I'd ask them how their hotel room was, and they'd say they'd had better beads before.
I'd ask what beads they were talking about because I didn't see any in mine (we were in the same hotel).
"Bead! Of course you've got a bead in your room!"
"Bead?"
"Bead! Bead! That thing you sleep in!"
I laughed so hard but she was a good sport about it. |

Buljaso, I'm sorry mate. That's why you didn't get any. She kept on asking and you kept on saying, "I don't go to no ones beads", Thats ok, next time, speak slower, oh mime the actions. |

I like the States because until the current regime I was proud to tell people all over the world that I am American. It used to have really positive connotations. A lot of heros, great people, and great inventions have come out of America. |

You probably really should redo this thread. I mean, the UK takes up so many choices while Australia and NZ are out. I've met way more people here from AU and NZ than from Scotland or Northern Ireland (none and none).
What I like best about my country is variety. I have been here for 10 years and I have see-sawed back and forth about my feeling of Korea from quite positive to quite negative. There are so many little things one could mention that one misses about home (or dislikes about Korea), but I have settled on variety. In my country you can easily find so many kinds of foods from all over, even in my rather small community. Being an older democracy, people are very used to the idea of breaking from the majority, thinking for themselves and starting their own kind of club or group. So, you can easily find people with a similar world view to your own. Or, if you'd like to expand your mind, you can meet all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds with all kinds of ideas. Being from a large country, there is also great geological variety-tundra, tropics, mts, deserts, canyons, plains, etc. Even cars and other goods. I always notice this right away when I go home and see so many kinds of cars instead of the same 4 or 5 basic styles I see here. |

Im from Oceania, born in NZ but live in Brisbane, Aust.
I love Brisbane, the people and the city, both are laid back and casual while not losing its chic-ness, downtown is green and beautiful while the nightlife is thriving.
You can drive an hour each way and be at two remarkably different coastlines, both being paradise's on earth.
Napier, NZ... Where I was raised is small but very beautiful, its on the east coast of NZ and because of an earthquake in the 1930's that devasted Napier, everything was re-built in the Art Deco, Spanish Mission style of architechture, so most of the buildings are in this style.

I'm from Western Australia. It's bloody great, good weather, laid back friendly people. Good food.
I've also lived in the North East of England, actually enjoyed the constant drizzle, probably the nicest people I've come across in my many travels, Good food.
Spent a fair bit of time in Louisiana, nearly as good as the people of the North East, dodgy weather, Great food.
Been in Korea for a long time(6 years) pathetic, effete, racist people, dodgy weather, average food except for Chon ju. |

My NZ friend's pronunciation is a great source of hilarity for me.
One more reason she's the best person I met in Korea. |
