I would like purchase a traditional Korean lantern. Where can I get one? I'd like the paper lanterns that are hand painted. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Insadong for sure, probably not Itaewon. As well, Buddhist shops often carry paper lanterns too, and there's one of them in most towns.

If you are in Seoul go to the shops round Jogye-Sa temple I am sure you will find loads there.

I bought some nice ones at Songtan. Not the Buddhist paper globes but the paper and wood traditional table top lamps. Bought in bulk and haggled for a nice discount, but even if I hadn't they still sell them cheaper than in Insadong. Insadong is superior craftsmanship and sells modern interpretations on the tradtional form which are really cool, but of course you pay for that.
