What in the name of Satan (eternal hails to Lucifer, Lord of Light! Don't break the oath! Six six six ways to die!) is on that fork? Have you been eating crap and then spewing it again, Seoulmon? Well, have you? |

I went to another similar place in Dongdaemun, it was called Everest- Nepalese food- looks similar to the stuff the OP had- really good massive naan bread for 2,000- a good sized chicken curry with ginger, cream, plenty spices for 8,000- I'll definitely go back.
To get there, go to Dongdaemun subway station (not Dongdaemun Stadium) exit three, walk until you get to the bank, turn left and look for the sign- but it's basically just the first right. |

There's also a Nepalese place opposite Dongmyo station. Ten minutes by subway from Itaewon station. Second floor. Big sign. The scary bathroom means it's authentic.
Something like 5,000 for a mixed Thali set. Yum. |

Nepalese style food rocks. I find it pretty similar to Northern Indian food. Yummy stuff indeed. Thanks for the links people.
One of the things I miss most about the UK is the cheapness and widespread availability of great Indian style food. A lot of places in Korea are a bit dodgy, half of them don't even serve popadoms and a lot of them are really overpriced for the actual quality you get. I don't mind paying for quality but paying through the nose for something I could easily make better myself at home is upsetting.
The only good thing about the lack of good Indian type style food is that it has forced me to learn how to cook the stuff really well now. It would still be nice to order in a nice Indian takeaway and chill out with only the plates to worry about cleaning up. I'm still not up to the standards of many British Indian chefs whose food I've eaten, but give it a few years and I'll hopefully get there. I still have a way to go to beat my favourite Indian restaraunt in the UK ran by a an ex coworker of mines dad, that place rocks my world whenever I get back to the UK. |

| Can anyone recommend a good Indian restaurant in the Shinchon/Hongdae/Myeong-dong/Jongno area? |

There is a cheap fusion place that is suprisingly good in Hongdae, it is hardly at the top of Indian food but it is bloody cheap and more tasty than most of the Korean food available in the area. I can't remember the name but it is dead easy to find.
Dodgy directions alert. If you know the main drag between Sangsu station and Shinchon you should have no problems. The little park thing close to the Hongik Uni gates find that, they have open markets with all sorts of students selling all sorts of crap outside. It has a sort of Indian name. It overlooks the park and is just across the street from the legendary 'skunk hell' punk club.
Sorry about the bad instructions but it can be found the other side of the road from skunk hell. It is cheap and nice and they do bargain lunch deals if you happen to live in the area and even if you dont live nearby they are still cheap.
It;s not the real deal though. I've yet to find anything in Korea approaching the real deal, and not through want of trying. Hell if I get really good at cooking curries maybe I'll open up my own damn place. |

| Just go to itaewon for a curry. They have the best there. Not going to say which one I go to because I do want to be able to get a seat and not have to wait. |

Went to Dongadaemun to try Nepali food. Had a super chicken curry at a place called Pooja. Got out of exit three and walked past the Woori Bank, on the main road. They say they serve Indian, Nepali, and Tibetan food, they even had chow mein on the menu. Curry was very good according to my unedcated palate (used to ottugi etc), you have to order rice or naan separately, so for just a meal it would be about 7-8K won, add a draught bear and it would be about 10K W. No Koreans or expats there, just a couple of Nepalis, who looked like native Americans. Friendly but reserved, brightened up and showed me a small kukri when Gurkhas were mentioned. Quickly changed my mind about mentioning a comparison with Ottuggi after seeing said kukri.
Next door was a tuck shop with Indian teas, spices and toiletries, and cigarettes you can actually taste when you smoke them: State Express 555, no Bensons though, and no Marmite, Bovril or Horlicks sadly. Johnny Walker Red Label tho.
Next walked towards Dongmyo Station on the same street. At the end was the Himalayan Restaurant on the third floor. Went up the stairs to check it out, a beautiful Indian girl was just lying curled up on a nook beside the stairs, sleeping. Opened her eyes and stared when I looked. the restaurant was almost empty, and a Korean-looking chap came out and looked around. 2nd floor looked like a sweatshop as did the 4th. On the way down the stairs asked the girl who was still lying down where 'Everest' was, she pointed dreamily to the sky and said sleepily 'chogi' smiled and closed her eyes again.
