|
|
Hi,
I want to get rid of my car. What do I do? I don't want to sell it because it's not worth much and all the paperwork is a serious pain in the butt. I don't feel like spending another day waiting at the Motor Vehicle office. So, what's the easy way to deal with it? Does anyone know a junk yard or somewhere I can go to just get rid of it and let someone else deal with it?
Thanks for any help!
PS: No, taking the plates off and adbandoning it in the street is not an option. |

Good question - particularly as used cars are worth zip here. I've got a very decent and reliable and comfortable - but old and ugly - Accent, and it's not worth the time of doing the paperwork when the time comes to sell it. Was just thinking about parking it downtown somewhere - and waling away . . .
When I lived in Saudi - they had your car on their immigration data system and would not grant you a "Final Exit" visa - until you had sold it. Lead to some real fire sales! |

If the gov't has to dispose of the car it's something like a million fine. |

| If you can't find a scrapyard to haul it away, maybe you could contact some sort of Goodwill/Salvation Army-type aid organization that could take it off your hands and put it to good use, give it to someone needy etc.. I know people who have gotten rid of cars (in Canada) by donating them to the shop class at local high schools and tech colleges.... given the average short lifespan of cars in Korea there must be some sort of mechanism in place to handle this sort of thing... |

Uh . . . make that "walking" away . . .
Geez, guess I'll have to offer someone a few won to talk it off my hands. |

When my Korean co worker bought a new car she said that her old car was being sent to Peru. |

good idea..
also, ages ago on here there was an identical thread to this one.. somebody mentioned there were companies that take care of these problems.. for a minimal charge, they will come out and tow your car away.. end of problem
can't help you find the thread but searching could be a good option |
