there's a big ostrich farm near my place. one of these days, i might work up the motivation to walk over and ask the people themselves, but in the meantime, i'll see if any of you have anything to say about the matter.
thing is, i've never seen ostrich meat, eggs, or any other ostrich products for sale in any supermarkets here in korea.
have any of you seen them? have any of you ever eaten ostrich? is it good? might make for a hell of a thanksgiving. |

I ate ostrich a few times in Holland. Its not bad.
I was expecting it to taste like a giant turkey. It doesn't.
I have no idea where you would find it in Korea. |

Back in the day the girlfriend and I were looking at getting a Monster Wing on the menu and we called an ostrich farm or two. I didn't really understand the answer -- yes, they sell meat, no we couldn't buy it.
If you find that you can let me know -- I'd like to experiment with a wing or two. |

finding it is not a problem. i can hear the ostriches from inside my apartment, and i can smell them most days. after i buy an oven, i think i might walk over with the girlfriend and see if i can't get my hands on some ostrich meat. |

I've had it a few times here on Jeju. There used to be two ostrich restaurants right here in my neighborhood, although both have closed. I imagine there is still at least one around somewhere (the two that were here were not really on a main drag, so I suspect others are "hidden" somewhere).
If memory serves (this was a couple of years ago), we had it both "bul-go-gi" and "shab-uh shab-uh" style, with the latter being better.
I've never just bought the meat and cooked it myself, but would guess that inquiries at the farm would be the best way to go about it. |

Get the meat and bring it over. Maybe we can fit like a wing in it or something. |

Did I or did I not tell you that I've eaten ostrich meat on many occasions and that I think it is good? Jesus man, don't I exist to you? Was it not I that inspired you to start that book?
I am your saviour, and don't you forget it, pal. You know what? I think that I'll be eating six of your burgers at your barbeque, instead of five like the last time. Take that, pioneer, take that. |

The meat is more like beef than turkey or chicken but much leaner. I've had an ostrich burger in Vancouver. And I think I ate it for Christmas dinner in Suwon last year. |

Ostrich meat is delicious. It's like a very lean steak, not like poultry at all. |

why not chime in here...
i used to own a breeding pair of ostriches... they cost mega bucks
the agistment farm had a massive storm 1 night and a juvenile became scared, the stupid thing ran straight into a wire fence, became tangled and broke its neck...
next day for lunch we were having bbq'd ostrich steaks.. fair dinkum good tucker..
i've never eaten a processed ostrich burger or steak.. i can't imagine the taste after eating fresh chunks of ostrich meat
because it was early in ostrich thing in australia, they were only being bred up to increase the numbers for eventual slaughter.. the meat i ate was worth 450 bucks a kilo (the bird was only a year old)..
it tasted like rump steak... not even close to anything else
with Mr. B. Bradley saying he has eaten ostrich many times i cannot doubt it.. in the ostrich world, south africa is famous for its huge population of ostriches.. |

There are a few Korean ostrich farms that sell their meat on the net. You can also expect to find an ostrich restaurant in your neighborhood if there's a farm nearby. |

My wallet, bought for me at Lotte department store, is made from ostrich hide. I've had it for two years and it still looks good. Very durable material. |
