Hey everyone, I read on a few posts that some of you with a korean spouse....intended to/or did appliy for permantent residence from within Canada. I have a question.....did you get the criminal record check done before you left korea? My husband has been having a lot of problems trying to get the police to do one, they told him he has to go to the canadian embassy first.....I don't think he does because he isn't applying from korea....if you did get it done what police station did you go to? I called immigration here in canada and she told me that even if he has a medical in korea he has to have it redone in Canada....does this sound right? The reason I ask is when I asked "If he gets a criminal record check done in korea, can we just have it translated fill out the immigration papers, and mail that record check or will he have to apply for a new criminal record check from Canada?" Her reply was..." Yes he needs one of those".... Question ...maybe she didn't understand or she wasn't listening.....but I thought most of you here would probably know more if you have already gone through the whole process. Thanks in advance.

I did this in 2001, so I don't know how accurate it will be.

My husband did the medical in Korea - one of the doctors on their list.

Police records from Korea have been problematic for many people. (I know one case in particular where the woman's MP had to get involved to allow his paperwork to go through without it.) If I remember correctly, we signed some sort of paper and the Canadian Embassy sent a request for the police records.

You might want to try one of the agencies in Canada that will do record checks for you. Sorry, don't have a name handy but "google" and they will come up. I got mine in Canada at the toronto police services. Maybe they might have an answer . See www.torontopolice.on.ca

Man, that sucks. Good luck to you. Dealing with the gov't here or back home is a serious pain. Sad

Thanks, he mangaed to get a criminal record check from th elocal police, but he said the national police said they would need a request from an embassy....so perhaps we will have to do the same thing....sign a paper and have the embassy request it. I think its probably best for him to try and have the medical in korea....it'll be much cheaper than having it done here in Canada...Razz Thanks again..Very Happy
