Church goers jailed for bashing follower
Three leaders of a Korean church in Sydney have been jailed for bashing a young woman who failed to regularly attend services.
Junior assistant pastor Chi Yeong Yun, 37, and Bible study teachers Tom Chae-Yong Lee, 22, and James Kang, 21, from Chatswood's Open Door Presbyterian Church, pleaded guilty to assaulting Angela Kim, 19, in July last year.
In the NSW District Court, acting Judge Joe Gibson named Yun as the "architect of the plan" to punish Ms Kim for not regularly attending the church and disrespecting her elders.
Yun was given a 12 month jail term, Kang was sentenced to nine months, and Lee received a three month sentence.
The court was told Ms Kim was picked up at the Waitara train station on July 8 last year and was taken by the men to a park at Bobbin Head in Sydney's north.
She was kicked and punched for about two hours, leaving her with extensive bruising to her arms, legs and buttocks.
Two nights later, Kang went to Ms Kim's home and smashed her portable CD player.
Judge Gibson said Kang's actions were intended to further enforce the message from the beating.
In handing down the sentences, he said the actions of the three men had gone against their teachings.
"Whether it was intended that it go as far as it did, I don't know," he said.
"Religion in this day and age does not countenance such conduct ... and is against the teachings of God."
He said women could not be "coerced and beaten into compliance".
"The victim is an adult able to make up her own decisions," he said.
During the hearing, Kang told the court the group had intended to help Ms Kim but their approaches got out of hand.
He said he knew the actions were wrong and that in future he would deal with people who had problems through the teachings of the Bible.
After the sentences were handed down, a supporter of the three men collapsed and had to be taken from Downing Centre Court on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

Now, I may be stealing Real Reality's thunder here, but it seems to me that this judge is a very kindly soul with his sound fatherly advice, and the Australian justice system is rather soft when compared to another country's system where a girl can get 20 years in hell for possession of a bunch of flowers. I hope these fvcking morons get eaten out by the Pentridge slamboys. Oh I so hope they get sent down to Pentridge.
If any Corean churchmen are reading this, don't you think it's about time that your people started using their brains a bit more? Kicking a defenseless little girl for two hours for not going to church ... well, it may be 'traditional' in Krea to beat on the weak, but where I come from it's just called bullying, and most people with a heart are totally against everything you stand for.

Well, the Jesus I learned about in Sunday school didn't advocate that either. Maybe the Krean church wrote their own bible. I dunno.
Sorry for the rant. This shit pisses me right off. |

my buddy's girlfriend is immediately called or messaged on her cellphone if she is late for church by her pastor.
"where are you?"
one time she was in the emergency room with some unknown stomach distress. her mom phoned her from busan
"where are you? the pastor phoned me, you're supposed to be at church!"
"mom, i'm very sick. i'm at the hospital".
"ok, hurry up and get to church as soon as you can".
after that the pastor messaged her "where RU?" or the korean equivalent. would it be ^^**^^?
if anyone poked their nose into my life that much i'd maul them like a bear. |

Take confucian hierarchy and mix it with religious psychosis and you get this kind of mentality.
Apalling. |

One of my K-friends got permission from her parents to go to a different church. She stops by and picks up a bulletin to leave in some conspicuous place at home as she returns home and goes to her room to watch TV. She's 27. |

Yeah when you join a Korean church it's like one big big family. Unfortunately your buddy's girlfriend is one of many millions that have to go through the same interrogation every time they miss a day. Religious institutions = overrated. |

the marmot has the story how the woman's parents paid for the lawyers for the defendants.
It seems pretty clear that the parents are using these churches to keep thier sons and daughters culturally pure and under the thumb of other Koreans. |

By far, the biggest pay cheats that I have run into here are Christian schools. |

It isn't only preachers who do this.
One of my friends told me that a kid ran away. The teachers spent their evenings going door to door to search for him. In the recent past, teachers were known to hang out around movie theaters and drag kids out so they could go home and study. |

Nice typo. No, I understand what you were trying to say, but still, your observation has no basis in truth. Why stop there? You might as well say there is no nutritional value in the Eskimo diet, or that there is no honesty amongst Australian sheepfarmers. Okay, maybe the second one could be argued. |

Yet another example of people doing inhumane acts "in the name of the lord".
I'll give it some thought next time I'm snorting a fat line of charly off a Gideon's bible. |

Read baduk's posts.
I am utterly stunned by the sheer zombiness of it all. |
No doubt about it, baduk's comments and beliefs deserve to be framed.

Because he's a dead ringer for Bill Gates, that's how. Bill's stuntman, Bill's stand-in, Bill's understudy, Bill's body-double. That't how. He can hire himself out for int'l business meetings and product exhibitions. But the laugh's on the organisers when Baduk/Bill drifts away from the prepared speech on MS' growth opportunities in China and starts ranting about what makes a REAL Christian. |
