I'm heading to Thailand in a few weeks, and I plan on staying for a while. Does anyone have any advice about how I should handle the money situation? My money's in my American account right now, but I think it's probably a bad idea to carry a large amount of cash over there with me. I think it could get expensive withdrawing money from an international ATM a lot though and I'm unsure of the availability of ATMs in some areas that I will be going. So, in your experience, what's the best way to travel and access money from home?

I would use ATM's and only take a day or two's worth at a time. I had my hotel room robbed in Chiang Mai two weeks ago. My real valuables were in a safe, but they got 130,000 won that I had just forgotten about in the back of my pack, set aside for coming home. I suspect they thought they were rich. Cool

Don't carry a lot of cash, and don't leave squat in your room!

It's almost nothing for a service charge on the ATMs, but just for others (I know, your money is the US), if you are withdrawing in Thailand from a Korean Bank, it will only work during Korean banking hours and NOT on holidays at all.
