Beautiful woman! Caught with drugs? In Indonesia! Possible Jail term, definite arrest. So soon after the last well publicised event! I am leaning towards sceptical unless she got picked up, totally smashed (with witnesses to it) by the police Laughing I will wait and see Question

Maybe, she was stupid, I will wait and see before judging. DEFINITELY, DO NOT WANT TO BE HER, DAMM, THAT WILL BE ONE BAD STAY.

Minimum four year sentence for two ecstasy pills. That's insane.

I was more concerned with her mental health after she gets out of the jail cell. No camera's in there and (maybe?) a few police officers willing to tap an aussie. Especially a model. Late nights there!!!

Hey if you are indonesian and feel I might be insulting you, want to talk about the grandmother in timor, thrown down a hole and set alight. Or the men, tied to a truck and doused in petrol and lit for foreign entertainment. I talked with a friend of mine who was there as a foreigner.

Don't surrender, a bullet is quicker.

>. The global "WAR" on "DRUGS" is itself largely a criminal enterprise. As for Indonesia, this country has a notorious reputation for its intolerance, despotic government & widespread corruption. If you can believe it it's apparently ever worse than Korea !!! Laughing

Clearly not a place i'd ever want to visit.

Theres conflicting infomation about whether or not she used X, but one things for sure, it doesn't help an appeal for Shappelle Corby.

Indonesia is a beautiful place but it is a bit dangerous, there is a lot of crime and corruption. Police are completely useless and often very corrupt. I wouldn't be put of visiting though as it has some of the most stunning scenery you'll find anywhere on the planet, some great food and often very helpful friendly people. Some of the extreme elements are a bit worrying but you just have to be very careful and watch your back.

Bali is great and the Balinese people are amazingly cool, it is the mainlanders who screw things up for them, a lot of them have a real gangster type mentality. Unfortunatley the Balinese are too mellow to have a strong resistance movement against the mainland. The real Balinese people are wonderful, cultured and gentle people.

This is my understanding, yes. Bali & the Balinese are said to generally be very kind & decent people Wink

Now if only something could be done to reform their despotic "justice" system, clean up the corruption & thuggery.

Clearly any effective change must come from within.

I find the Balinese pretentious, and most Indonesians would agree. Go to Lombok and ask them what they think of their neighbouring islanders. "Up-themselves, money grubbing bar-studs" is the general consensus I believe.

Indonesian prisons are fine... if you can afford it. Corruption is institutionalized there, and you can buy your way out of anything.

What happened in Timor is different. They were never a part of Indonesia. The Timorese knew it, and the Indonesians knew it too. That wasn't a civil war. It was two foreign nations fighting each other. The atrocities committed there do not reflect some sort of cruel, vicious Indonesian people in general.

He denied foreigners were being targeted over drug use in Bali. But he added "we apply selective priority because we have limited police officers".

This bit of doublespeak in the article made me smile.

I think the lesson we should all learn from this is:
Beautiful people shouldn't have to follow the rules.

I would like to retract my earlier comments. Embarassed

But in consideration of East Timor vs Indonesia. Irian Jaya vs Indonesia, Moluccas vs Indonesia, Kalimantan vs Indonesia. I feel its clear that thier violence is not all due to war as we know it. As only one place won its freedom so far and the violence goes on. Also it appears to be a war between muslim radicals and supporters and non muslims in Indonesia in most of these cases. There are a few other cases that occur just can't remember where they are Question

dude, it isn't about religon. There are those in power who don't want to lose any of their power. Case in point: Aceh. It almost entirely Muslim and yet people there have been fighting the Indonesian gov't for years.
