I was wondering if getting your pension is dependent on turning in your Alien Registration card at the airport on your way out. I don't intend to turn mine in since I'll be heading home for a vacation and returning on my same visa (F-2).
Since I have a plane ticket heading home I figure why not?
I think it would be nice to get my hands on the large pension payout and invest it properly, rather than let it sit in a Korean government account--especially when the Second Korean War is looming in the near future and all Korean currency will be worth less than sheets of toilet paper.
Has anyone done that before? |

Doh!
Just got off the phone with the pension-mongers. You need a ONE way ticket.
Damn. Can't beat that one. But anyhow if I had a one way ticket, the original question above still stands. |

the pension payout is NOT dependent on turning in your Alien Registration card at the airport on your way out.
this is how i did it.
first your place of employment must end everything with you. they have to notify the pension office and tell them that you are no longer employed, which i asked my employers to do when i finished my contract.
second i got a separate full-fared one-way ticket that i could get a refund on and got one for the date i was leaving korea for vacation.
then i went to the pension office with my bogus-but real one way ticket, my bankbook in korea, my passport and ARC card to the pension office. took 10 minutes to get everything done. went on vacation, came back and started working for my employer again and the money was in my back in an astonishing 17 days. i guess the korean government isn't too bad.
my scenario wouldn't work for teachers on an E2. If you have a F-1, F-2, or F-4...........no problem.
hope this helps |
