Really, i jsut ended my job here in korea and just got back my diploma and transcripts.
Transcripts not sealed, but bought an org. envelope and make a fresh Seal of the State of California stamp. Went through, no questions asked.
I think the demand from hogwans to immigration is getting to them and they just push them though. Just looking at them: sealed, stamped, not opened, has org. diploma.
Unless immigration starts to demand DNA fingerprints or the university systems in the U.S. have an open database system for immigration to check, don't think it will do much.
I think if someone has a TELF or some other english lang. qualification it should be considered better. But this is Korea and I laugh sometimes when I see them start something new.

| Thanks for the help. My main concern deals with the horror stories I have heard (there are so many... so, so many) of people having their diploma 'held hostage' until they do what the director wants, ie. stay extra time, etc. |

I'm absolutely livid.
I'm now on my third attempt to get the transcripts from my University.
#1. Got lost in the post... surprise, I'm in Thailand.
#2. Sent with a tracking number through DHL. Envelope has been opened with scissors, and then sellotaped back together:(
#3.... Still waiting.
Ah, what a pain. I'm starting to think that my only option is to fly back home and get them myself. |

Anyone out there that attended the U of Sask?
I am trying to get some transcripts (stilllllllllllll) and the site where you order them says I need to have an NSID in order to use the on-line ordering system.
Anyone out there know how to go about getting an NSID?
I have tried to contact them, but all I got in response was a computer generated letter. |

That wasn't so tough. |

got a new job (non-teaching)
they need the basics: copy of passport, diploma, and TRANSCRIPTS.
according to everyone no this thread, the sealed transcripts are necessary for VISA PURPOSES.
what if i already have an f-4 visa (they never asked for transcripts) and don't need the employer's e-2. do they still need these documents or would it be too much for me to say NO?
otherwise, if i DO submit those documents (which i don't mind doing really) where do they go? frankly, i don't feel comfortable having my new employer reading what grade i got in so and so 3 years ago in college. are they going to actually read my transcripts, or is it just sent somewhere like immigratno STILL SEALED?
thanks. |

Any company in any country can ask for an applicant's credentials and it's not unusual for companies to have minimum GPA requirements for recent college graduates. |

hari,
does that mean they could drop you if they don't like your grades, even after you've been hired? or is this unlikely...
if i have an f-4 is it the company that's looking at my transcripts or the immigration office, or is it usually both anyway? or do neither look at it.. argh. |

I don't know. Perhaps another poster has the answers. |

What are you folks doing with the recent requests from schools for sealed transcripts as part of the application package?
"REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Current resume and cover letter
- Copy of undergraduate and graduate diplomas
- Set of official, sealed undergraduate and graduate transcripts (mailed to us directly from the university)
- Copies of personal data pages from your passport and current visa (if you are currently teaching in Korea)
- 2-3 recent letters of reference
- 3 passport sized color photos taken recently
- All documents should be submitted no later than June 24, 2005
Documentation should be mailed to:
Cheon Myeong-ho
Sungkyun Language Institute
Sungkyunkwan University
300, Cheoncheon-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, 440-746, South Korea
E-mail: [email protected]
Phone: 82-31-290-5231 "
I think it's pretty bogus. I still send copies, and am fully prepared to deliver the real goods if/when I'm hired. But now I'm wondering if not providing them from the get-go might damage my chances of getting the job in the first place.

I have not instructed my alma maters to send sealed transcripts and I won't. I have copies of my transcripts. They can review that along with my other paperwork. If they interview me and decide to give me an offer, sure, I'll order transcripts. They're getting over zealous which people are prone to do. The requirement that immigration receive sealed transcripts is reasonable, but they don't need to have that prior to making me an offer.
Enough said... |

To Hari Seldon i got them but no they won't just send them anywhere. Some 911 paranoia routine but then mine have all sorts of "confidential" information on them social security number, date and place of birth etc.
I have several but it was a strange project all told. Certainly a lot of 3:00 A.M. phone calls to kids who are just part time workers. They all had wild names like Barbie, and Heather. You can't just wire them the money you have to buy money orders etc. I had sense enough to way overpay, obviously by normal mail it could take a very long time.
Obviously nobody really has a firm grasp on this. I can say from my own experience they will send them to universities and they will send them to the embassy. They will send them to your parents (if they haven't moved) and oddly enough they will send them to your old university address. Haven't been there in years (hope they still have the keggers.)
All this created by one recruiter (I so love them) a former major advertiser on this site I might add.
The heyday of the forged documents was ten years ago when all the recruiters were born. It was not uncommen for them to send X off to a job using the papers you had submitted to them. I assume they are still doing it. Worknplay will probably be a fertile field for immigration to plow in the near future.
The recruiters often remind me of cults. Cults often seem to like to release sarin gas into the subway system or else drink cyanide laced cool aid in the middle of the jungle.
The recruiters it seems all end up in jail eventually. So many I can name from the past have. |

Mine is about AUS$20 for EACH one !
Hey, while I'm here.....(I know this is a totally inappropriate place to say this but I'm DESPERATE!!).....if ANYBODY knows of any openings (I don't care, kindy, whatever)from 26 December through to about the end of January that will ACCEPT Aussies.....I really need a job, desperately! Why the hell do I keep getting rejected?? I'm sorry to say this, but I'm starting to feel bitterness against North Americans........ |
