Does anybody know why I keep getting the
"www.site.com could not be found" error about 0.01 of a second after I enter the URL.

It's starting to get really annoying. It seems to have a ridiculously short timeout when I try to connect to a site. And it throws up a could not be found error straight away.

Anyone know which about.config setting I can change ? or if it's something else entirely.

Are you able to see any websites at all? If not it's an internet connection problem - and you'll have to troubleshoot your internet access.

Thanks Naruto,

I guess I should have been clearer, the internet connection works fine. It's just that firefox times' out the connection request after about 0.01 sec.

It tells me something isn't there, before it even tries to check. This happens about 50% of the time.

Ya, I guess that's possible mindmetoo, it's on a windows system. I ran a spybot checker a couple of days ago and it came up with nothing. I've been having this problem for well over a week now. Probably more like a month, it's about time I got around to fixing it, but then I don't use that computer much.

I really think that it's some kinda timeout connection request thing on firefox. That it doesn't wait long enough for the server to response over TCP/IP. If that's it then there's probably a setting you have to adjust somewhere, but if there is then I can't find it. (Not that I'm going to spend all day trying either, for that matter ...)

I'm assuming you tried the typical delete of temp files, cache, cookies, history...if that doesn't work i'd suggest uninstalling FF and reinstalling fresh. Just keep your bookmarks.

How do you know it's working? Do other network apps function correctly?

In a new tab or window, type about:config into the space you would normally put the website address. This will open up a whole list of changeable items. Just scroll down until you come across an entry network.dns.disableIPv6 and change the value from false to true (right click the value and it will give the option to toggle it)

Also, try enabling pipelining. If set from about:config, it's in "network.*", and you should give a true value to both lines (with and without proxy). Then set the maximum number of requests at 10 or so.

Dunno...just some ideas. Is this site applicable? Have a look...

Hi Demophobe,

nice one, I had the pipelining thing tweaked already ... but the ipv6 thingy has solved the problem.

It works like a charm now ...

cheers, Very Happy
