Gunmen Attack Contractors on La. Bridge
Sep 04 7:08 PM US/Eastern
NEW ORLEANS
Police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on a group of contractors traveling across a bridge on their way to make repairs, authorities said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people carrying guns, killing five or six.
Fourteen contractors were traveling across the Danziger Bridge under police escort when they came under fire, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers.
They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help plug the breach in the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.
None of the contractors was killed, Hall said.
The bridge spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
No other details were immediately available.

Maybe the people that opened fire on the contracters were police. In black run New Orleans, it seems anything is possible. |

Time to put down the crack pipe and start reading the news. The Mayor of N.O is incompetent. |

The mayor of NO did exactly what he was supposed to do: ordered the evacuation. FEMA is responsible for conducting it.
Black-run? (Work on your grammar.) Pure racist crap. Do they ban people here? I sure hope so. |

There is nothing wrong with my grammar, EFLtrainer. Black controlled cities in the US are frequently described as 'black run'. I wonder why an unqualified English teacher is trying to tell me to correct my grammar. That might work on Koreans that dont know any better, but wont work on me.
The N.O Mayor is responsible for the post disaster chaos. All the police desertions in his force. The Affirmative Action hires that allowed criminals to be police as long as they were black. The N.O police looting Walmart (not an isolated incident). Far from the Mayor compentently organising an evacuation, he allowed the city buses to be flooded and unused. With the police force out of control, FEMA had to suspend some operations due to lawlessness.
In anycase, take your accusation of racism and smoke it.

Did anyone hear the mayor of N/O of CNN when he made a dramatic outburst on a radio show? He sounded like a gangster! |

I don't care how others use it. It should be hyphenated in the sentence you wrote.

Unqualified? Do please explain.

First off, the reports of desertions may be grossly exaggerated. This is unknown at this time. Second, the mayor is NOT the police commissioner. Third, this is even less logical than blaming Bush for the flooding because he didn't fund flood control. Third, it is a FEDERAL responsibility to manage natural disasters. The police have an entirely adjunct role in such cases. Finally, some desertions are going to be expected due to sheer overwhelming misery. And more so when the federal goverment leaves a city undefended and unmanaged for three or more days!
And if your assertion had any merit whatsoever you'd have to claim desertions, treasonous attacks by our own personnel and suicides in Iraq are all Bush's fault. Ridiculous on its face except by extension: they chouldn't be there in the first place.

No, you're not racist...

Looting? Are you nuts? They had no resources and commandeered what they needed! My God, man...
Oh, bloody hell... FEMA is responsible for getting troops there! The Governor is responsible for getting NG tropps there. Pull your racist head out.

I think its time they gave over the government of America to blacks. I heard that in America all the blacks live separately from whites, in ghettos, that they don't even mix with eachother and are oppressed. A kind of Apartheid. Everywhere the different groups of Latinos, blacks etc stay separate from eachother. Seems like a racist country.
As this forum crashed yesterday i checked out the N.O message board- it was filled with Americans spouting terrible things against black people.
I'd like to see international sanctions applied to America until they allow blacks into the white house..

So says you, an unqualified English teacher. If the sentence was ambiguous in its meaning, then a hyphen may have been appropriate, but it was not. In addition, use of hyphenation differs between the various nations of the English speaking countries.

Surely you are not suggesting that you are indeed qualified? I am not talking about a TEFL certificate, either.
EFLtrainer wrote: |

The only thing that is unknown is how bad it is. From 20% to 2/3rds are said to have deserted.
EFLtrainer wrote: |

The police commissioner answers to the Mayor. The Mayor is responsible for the conduct of underlings.

The Federal Government can handle disasters, not people shooting at helicopters.

I thought you said the Mayor 'did an amazing job'. Now you say it was undefended and unmanaged?

Falied attempt at sarcasm? If you have a problem with what I wrote, then make a counter argument.

No, its called stealing. Anyone that saw that video could see that.

Looks like you made a spelling mistake there, ESLtrainer. Crying racist wont help you win this debate. This isnt university where you can have some marxist professor put me in sensitivity training.

Whatever. The good thing about the internet is that people will make up their own minds, regardless of how you try to label people. |

Again, support your assertion.

We shall see what we shall see, but it cannot be said to be the cause of the mayor, aprticularly since he was in the trenches fighting for his city.

He is responsible only if he made no attempt to manage his city and subsequently fails to punish them shouild they return.

What a waste of time, but I'll repeat: the federal gov't is fully responsible for any FEDERALLY DECLARED EMERGENCY.

It's called a typo.

When you apply an explanation of race for things that are obviously not, there are only two possible explanations: flame baiting or racism.

While you're bleating about "racism", the supposed victims of that racism are actively trying to assassinate those sent to help them.
I ask again, is this Iraq or the U.S.? |

Like I said elsewhere, the differences are not as big as we think. |
