Sorry guys. This has probably been covered before but maybe I am doing a search wrong as I can't find anything at the moment, and am in a bit of a rush with finding the info.

My question is, when transferring money from Korea to say Australia or NZ, do I need to have a bank account with the bank doing the transfer or can I just cruise into any bank with a wad of cash, my alien registration card and payslip and they can just send it?

Info greatly appreciated.

Thanks Very Happy

Sorry,

not an expert, but will post something till someone more knowledgeable does as well...

I don't think you need an account with the sending institution. Also, it certainly shouldn't matter from this end if it is Aust., NZ, or anywhere else.
I think the most important matter is the money: do you have it or not. I suspect that it would be cheaper and perhaps easier if you have an account, but you can always use wire-transfer services like Western Union (US) or the Post in some countries, therefore you should not need an account.

Just go to the nearest major bank you see and give it a try.
good luck.

I've been transferring money from a bank I don't have an account at for the past few months. They're pretty sticky about providing the pay slip every month and also they photocopied my contract on my first visit. They also required Alien Reg card and passport. The guy said I couldn't transfer more than my total monthly pay for that month.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

I've transferred money from the first day here... they've never asked me for a payslip? I mean.. if they had asked, I wouldn't have been able to produce one - my husband doesn't give payslips.. lol..

But to answer your question, yes, you can just go to a bank (I recommend KEB), take your ARC and your passport and your money, fill out a form and they should be able to you without asking further questions.
