I simply want Americans to acknowledge the injustices of their past, particularly against the native Americans. But it was a step too far for them, revealing the hypocrisy. I no longer suggest you install a native or black president (shock,horrifying prospect to you  ) or go back to europe: just a simple acknowledgement. But No.

Actually he never represented his case, provided no real argument or links. he just took a stance which everyone wants to believe- so they ignored all the real evidence and just kept going along with it.
The reason this thread caused such uproar is because it touched a nerve, it hit the truth. Other wise people would have simply ignored it. Deep down you know that a huge inhuman injustice was inflicted on your native people to garantee your own futures.
However, sensitive to the pain of your guilt, I kept trying to steer the discussion onto things less taunting to you- I offered the bait of discussing the ecocide rather than the genocide- but obviously people know far less about their own naturla history than they do about their human history. So I gave up: let the thread die. |

Rapier: I never objected to acknowleding this -- indeed, I don't know any Americans who don't acknowledge this. This, by the way, is the best way you've expressed it yet.
Several population movements have occurred since the last Ice Age: Siberians into the Americas; South Chinese into the Pacific; the Bantu across Africa; Western Europeans into the Americas.
These involved the accidental transmission of disease and many other random developments, such as, in the case of the western hemisphere, the transmission of European weeds and grasses. These unconscious elements wrought tremendous demographic and ecological devastation in their wake.
Also, it wasn't always accidental. There was casual murder, there was brutality, there were terribly bad govt policies, esp. in the United States after Jackson (i.e., Indian Removal, and "assimilation" measures)
I just object to your application of terminology from Hitler's Holocaust of the Jews to this discussion.
If you could refrain from applying anachronistic words like "Holocaust" and "genocide," if you could refrain from going out way beyond the evidence to assert that there was no difference between what the SS did to the Jews and what the U.S. govt did to Native Americans, esp. in intent, then I really wouldn't disagree with you very much, esp. on the hypocrisy of the propaganda that you witnessed...
I tried to tell you this several different ways, from different angles, over perhaps a dozen pages on this thread, but you weren't open to listening to me. You were way too intent to tar the U.S. govt as Nazi-like. |
