Coming to Korea in 2 weeks.

What is playing in the theatres?
Can we get region 1 DVD's or region free DVD players

They play a lot of Western movies in theaters, though sometimes the release dates come before (seldom) or after (often) they do in the West.

Region 1 DVD's are a big no. However, you can get region 3 dvd's , or pirated dvd's that are, as far as I can tell, region free.

And region free DVD players can be found without too much hassle.

I went to the cinema in the basement the other day and Back To the Future 2 was playing...the kids couldn't stop talking about it..

I heard that maybe this Christmas there will be a movie in Korea about a Dinosaur Park, WOW!!!

-Man Korea is catching up with the world......maybe one day we will have air-con cinemas that I hear all the foreigners talk about but for now it is just old style cinemas in the basement for me...

They have heaps fo western movies at the theatres..... There seem t be a lot of horror movies coming out at the moment but all of the movies are new and are actually released sooner here than my home country.

As fir DVD's you can always order them online

www.toocheapdvds.com is great except they are not accepting any new orders for a little while as they upgrade thier site. DVDs are region 9 (works on any dvd player - or all region) and they cost about US$6 each. They are not copies, and they have free shipping to anywhere in the world. I think delivery was about 10 days to Korea when I ordered from them.

Korea has a screen quota system, meaning they can show X number of foriegn movies per year. I don't know the finer machinations of it.

As for what you get, it tends to be pretty commercial stuff. Block busters and what not. But some good movies will slip in. My tastes are pretty middlebrow, and I think its all right here. If you're a cinephile, you're going to suffer.
