They can tell immi that you were abusing kids (or whatever they want) and make finding another job or even leaving the country very difficult. An ex-coworker had this exact thing happen to her.

Plus, if she got fired the boss may tell immi that she quit. We also have a thread on that kicking around here somewhere. That can make things ugly also because I think if she got fired she doesn't need a release letter. Don't know for sure. It's never happened to me fortunately.

Who knows what the friggin' boss can do? They have an endless arsenal of tricks up their sleeves.

Pegpig, what happened to that co-worker exactly? How could immigration prevent her from even leaving the country? How could they make finding another job difficult? I mean, is there some big computer program immi uses to track this kind of stuff? Has anyone ever been denied a Visa because of something like this? My question assumes that the release letter itself is not the problem.

Why do you take ever expat's explaination as "gospel truth?" Why is it wrong that I question her, there is always two sides to every story. I am sorry that I opened you up to a world of critical thinking.

Alright, a follow up. I had a meeting today with my director and we worked out a deal that is of the following. I still have to leave the school. I will have to pay for my plane ticket, and my settling fee, and a cleaning fee for my room, and some taxes comes to 1.13 million won. I will however, get a completed contract signal at Immigration, my degree and teaching certification returned to me, a recomendation for another job, and 500,000 won. The 500K is out of my salary which I will recive for haveing completed 3 weeks work, comes out to about 1.7 mil.

I have to teach untill the 16th though. Looks like it could have turned out much worse, still though it is a pain in the arse.

I for one am glad that there is a happy ending. It just goes to show if you sit down and talk out your problems that things go your way.

If you are OK with it, I guess it's probably a satisfactory ending.

I sure wouldn't call it happy, though. I have a real problem with "schools" who bring new people over here, and expect them to be model teachers after just 2 weeks.

I've been here for more than 3 years and I still have a lot to learn.
I think your director is just being an arse. But they are probably doing you a favor. In the long run you will probably be better off working somewhere else.

To the wolfman: I understand your point that there are some people who come here who really shouldn't.

Maybe she isn't the best teacher, fresh out of uni with a whole 2 weeks experience. Maybe the director would have been wiser to tell her what he expects of her and give her some time to adjust to a new culture and all.

Well, not perfect but if it suits, then OK.

One question though: if they fired you, why do they want you to stay?

Politiricks,

Please check your private messages, and let me know if you're interested ASAP.

I could even find you a place to stay around here until the start of your job.

Maybe they want time to look for another teacher?

Get back to us on the 16th to see if you get everything promised. This may just be a ploy to get you to work that one extra week as a free substitute.

Yes, Immigration can and will put a black mark on your file (why is another story). But if for some reason they don't want you in... you won't be getting back in.

Of course they have a big computer somewhere. Rolling Eyes
