A friend and I have this idea about checking out Everland on one of the days of Chusok weekend. Are we making a grave mistake? Is the place gonna be so packed that we'd be stupid to choose that weekend when, really, we could go just about any damn weekend we wanted?

Follow-up: I've looked at the maps, I know that Everland isn't all that far from my Migeum/Ori area. Would taking a cab there be a reasonable idea, the fare split between two? Or would we be stuck in Chusok traffic for hours as the meter turned?

Forget about Everland and go to Jeju-do for an authentic Korean holiday experience. Evil or Very Mad

I wouldn't advise taking a cab from Migeum or Ori...it's a little far. Not that far, but too far to be advisable. Plus taking a trip that requires going somewhere by bus, taxi, or car during Chuseok isn't a good idea....TOO MUCH TRAFFIC!!!

I'd say it depends which day and time you're going. If you're heading out when everyone else is heading out - OUCH!! But, if you left Sunday morning and came back Sunday night I think it might be tolerable. Wouldn't a bus be cheaper? Yes.

I've never been to Everland Embarassed , but I would think that during Chuseok might be one of the quieter days - everyone's with their families.

Anything outside your own apartment at Chuseok - especially weekend Chuseok - inhales, seriously inhales.

Stay home, batten down the hatches and make love to your wife, somebody else's wife, your g/f or even yourself.

I treat Chusuck like I would a tornado-- I hide out in the basement for three days. The roads are impassible and everywhere seems to be jammed with screaming children. This year it's on a weekend and there's one crappy day off-- why not go to Everland on another weekend?

Ironically, though, another poster had a good idea-- I went to Jeju last year for Chusok. It was hard to get a flight, but it was surprisingly quiet there.

Great time to be in Seoul though! My first Chusok I went to Seoul and the place was practically deserted. Like a scene right out of 28 Days Later.

But Everland? No way. Don't venture away from anywhere that doesn't have a subway line- it's the only dependable transportation during national holidays.

And if you're not near a subway line to begin with, see thposts above. Batten down the significant other and make love like a tornado. Or something like that.

I wouldn't try it. There are a few buses that go straight there. I believe that the 1500 goes there (you live near Bundang, right?) I would check out the Everland website (I tried to do it for you, but I couldn't get the English language version to work.) Good luck!

Although the traffic is crazy over Chuseok- Korean people tend to travel in a very predictable way. Out of the city on the Friday night or early Saturday, back into the city on the Monday.

I reckon if you went on the Sunday, you'd have a good day out.

Ah this crappy Chusok, I hate it when it falls on the Saturday or Sunday. For the non-Saturday workers, which is almost everyone now, it's one day off.
Everland is indeed close to Migeum and Ori. And that road, I think it's the 42, is not a major highway--more of a suburban road. It might not be too bad on Friday. Taxi from Ori--or, better, Bojeong, would be about 12,000 won, I'd think.
Is Everland even open on Chusok, though? Poor slobs have to man the rollercoaster controls while everyone else is eating rice cakes and/or doing farm work, etc.?

I did Everland during Chuseok 3 years ago! We left early to catch the bus from Bundang, which yes, took a little while, but not over an hour. The place was like Wally World on National Lampoon's Vacation in the morning! We had the front seat on most rides until the afternoon when all the other foreigners in Korea had the same idea. All in all, a great time and no hassle if you go early.

I know that some are heading out to Doek-Jeok Do for a little live music with friends & R & R. It's off Incheon. It's a subway ride and a short way to the pier. Hoping to maybe go. Up in the air at this point. (Sorry to take this thread into a different direction).
