Release year: 1992

Description:
On the afternoon of Friday, October 13 1972, one of the most controversial and inspirational tales of survival began when an airplane carrying a team of young rugby players from Uruguay crashed into the Andes Mountains.
Several of the passengers died instantly but most survived. For eight days, they sat and waited to be rescued. But help never came and they learnt from the radio that the search had been abandoned. Soon their food and drink were gone.
Forced to exist in sub-zero weather for ten weeks, the survivors endured the unimaginable by doing the unthinkable (eating dead fellow passengers) until three of the boys, Nando Parrado (Ethan Hawke), Antonio Balbi (Vincent Spano) and Roberto Canessa (Josh Hartnett) left camp in an heroic attempt to trek out of the mountains for help.

If the whole sentence is a quote, then you need to cite the source at least in your OP. You only have a whole sentence in quotes, not the African American part. And with no source, on has to assume you were saying it.

Wow, you're some kind of an idiot, huh? Citation and bibliography in the subject line of a post? Sorry Des I think you're the one with the defect. The rest of us know what quotation marks mean and we don't need a sentence following them by way of explanation.

Quote:
Good on you for knowing the quote function, now you need to move on to the citation part of it.

It's not the "quote function" (the preceding was surrounded by quotation marks to indicate that they were Desultude's words), it was something he wrote in the subject line. Browsing the forum, you will see that it clearly stands out from other subject lines.

No, if you read what I said, "If the whole sentence is a quote, then you need to cite the source at least in your OP", I am indicating that you could say something like, so and so said "African American blah blah", then you are indicating that the words do in fact belong to another person. A quote (what I meant by "function" was use, which is what function does mean) needs to be attributed. I never suggested that it needed to be attributed in the subject line. The quotes functioned in the subject line to indicate that the words were said by a third party, but the attribution was not made.

Sorry, I will save the rest of the explanation for my advanced writing class.

Finally, going back and piecing together the explanation, I can see where the OP is coming from, and it makes more sense. That is why the clarity provided by things like quotes and attributions are so important. I even went to the article in the second posting to see if the title language was used in the thread title. I did look to see if someone was being quoted.

I apologize to the OP for my original misinterpretation.

Some people just don't know when it's time to cut their losses, apologize, and change the subject. Desultude, you were wrong. The OP was right. Say sorry and drop it.

the sad thing is that most blacks (as a result of their government-funded education) have no clue where africa is...couldn't find it on a map and have no clue as to african history, etc

Its dissapointing to realise that most people in the world are incurably dumb. I mean that..about 50-60% of the worlds population are just stupid.
I'm not being mean or anything..but does anyone agree? A lot of people just act, or actually are, braindead.
Mixing with esl teachers you know that they all have degrees at least..theres a chance of interesting conversation, somebody is home. But in many countries the average person in the street is just a pleb. Just sit in a bar in London or Korea or wherever, and half the people are idiots.
Know what I'm saying? It seems to be common to just about everywhere.

You're a young one if you think this was the original movie.

One would have to be a fool to claim they wouldn't eat human flesh if they were on the verge of starvation. I'd be willing to bet someone's hairy ass will start to look a lot like a hamburger to you once your survival instincts kick in.

Absolutely, hollywood action. In deperate circumstances I'm sure i'd have no problem tucking into a few spare ribs. I've heard that its a bit salty and tastes like pork, with a kind of sweet smell.
If you think about it, some cultures were cannibalistic until relatively recently- and many animal species will naturally devour their own in certain circumstances.

Did anyone here about the charismatic brutal dictator Colonel bokassa of the Central African republic? back in the 70's he not only kept a pool of crocodiles to which he threw his rivals, lazy servants and even ex wives- but he also served up nicely roasted human cutlets to unsuspecting visiting dignitiaries and politicians.
i think the belief that you inherited the strength and qualities of certain animals you ate, and that eating the flesh of your enemies is their ultimate humiliation- was strong in certain parts of Africa until recent times.

Such as in Europe, where mummies, and other human products, were ground up to produce medicine. This practice of making 'mummy powder' went on as recently as in the second half of the 20th century.

God, I know exactly what you are saying!
I just didn't think you'd ever wake up to the fact that you are a part of that 50-60%.
Congratulations on taking that first step towards recovery.

You know, Rapier...I am far from stupid. What I said is true whether you like it or not...it's just another example of the race-division in the states that continues to be thrown in our faces...the fact is you are either American or not...the liberals get their power from dividing Americans into race and class...

as for the blacks in America...their poor state of education is directly related to the liberal war on poverty, a 10 trillion (and rising) dollar fiasco...it has destroyed their self-reliance, their respect for education, their respect for community and for others..what we are seeing today is a result of liberal policies...

I would like to enlighten you more but I have a plane to catch.....next time...

by the way, I am a MENSA member...that makes me quite intelligent...not dumb like most waygooks in this Go-forsaken country

Liberals just don't get that! The ignorant ones think that just giving things away is noble and helpful.

Give a man a fish...

Amen.

The irony here less ironic than had irony been unintended, ironically.

From reading what he said, I don't think it was a personal attack, so much as an obsevation of others. Rapier can disagree with me if he feels too.

This is just what we need in a crisis. Lessons on ideology!
