|
|
There's a pizza shop that's having its grand opening tomorrow just across from the front gates of Hongdae. It's a pizza-by-the-slice shop. I got to try a couple of samples and talk with the owner a bit about the business, and it seems like he's got the right idea. The pizzas are thin crust and not expensive at all, as one slice starts at 1,500 won.
They have a few different choices, but all of them go easy on the ingredients (in other words, no supreme mega ultra pizzas). You can get a slice and a drink for 2,500 won.
It's a good little setup and the pizza isn't bad at all; just a little sparse on the cheese for my liking. No seating, though.
Since they're opening tomorrow, the owner mentioned that he's having a couple of contests, one of them being who can eat an entire pie the fastest. If you're in the area, give it a try. It's located right across from Hongik University, right by that waffle cart and a few shops left of McDonald's. |

Whats with the quip about Montreal....
I guess thats par for the course these days on this board, people reverting topics back to Canada that previously didn't even relate to the country. Retentive, to say the least.
Damn, I'm glad I'm not from the North Americas> |

This is the reason I definitely don't miss Hongdae or Korea. Getting a little excited about a crappy pizza shop. |

That's what I was wondering. I'm excited because it's a 30 second walk from work and makes a new cheap lunch alternative. The post itself was simply for informational purposes. |

I just went there.
Its called "NEWYORK SLICE PIZZA".
There are 5 types of pizza you can order:
1) New York Plain Cheese -1500 won
2) NYPD - 2000 won (this is a pepporoni slice)
3) Central Park - 2000 won (this is tomoto, onion and parsley)
4) Soho - 2000 won (this is green pepper and mushroom)
5) Broadway - 2000 won (this is ham and pepporoni)
If you look at the advertisements.. there are some slogans such as..
"The original taste of New York pizza sold by the slice at a price that everyone can afford. A way pizza should be eaten, anytime, anywhere by everyone!"
There are some pictures.. one sequence of pictures has a a guy leaving a restaurant and eating his pizza as he is walking.. the picture title says "Pizza is a great snack or meal substitute for people on the run".
My assessment:
I had just had a slice myself.. its larger than I expected from anywhere in Korea (slightly larger than the size of a large slice of pizza you'd order in a box). It also tastes like they import their sauces and such from the west.. (not that weird korean pizza/spaghetti sauce taste). Thats a major plus. Anyhow, its more than sufficient for me, I'll definetely go back again and again to support the business. |

I agree. I think all ethnic restaurants of whatever type in all countries should be shut down. Food should be an issue of national(istic) pride and purity. This recent trend of increasing variety in food choices is disturbing. In fact, I think Italians shouldn't be allowed to use tomatoes, Irish shouldn't eat potatoes and Koreans should give all their gochu back to the Portugese and above all shouldn't put corn on pizza. |
