Most of the Canada-bashing that goes on on this forum is a direct response to America-bashing.
There are some Canadians on this board who are like the little Korean boys you may teach. You know the ones...
"Teacher! You have a big zit!"
"Teacher! Face is ugly!"
"Teacher! Shoes are bad!"
In other words, they are sooooo quick to point out flaws that someone else may or may not have, but they fold like roadmap when the same thing happens to them.[/code] |

And that totally explains your sneering off-topic and ad hominem "hide in the back" attack.
You're one of the little boys yourself. |

Sometimes I make the sneering comments, yes. Why did I make that statement? Because some idiot tried to incinuate that Canada was more successful on DDay than the Americans.
Oh, please spare me the, "Look! I'll show you the percentages and the figures that show that Canadians were more successful on DDay because they got to their endpoint on time!" Blah, blah, blah... Two different beaches, two completely different sets of goals, and two COMPLETELY different amounts of opposition...
And, PS...
Do you guys study American history and politics in school? I am just curious. Is getting into American politics a fun hobby for you?
Maybe I'll get into studying Canadian politics...
Oh, that's right. Canadian politics is meaningless and no one cares about it. |

I don't think you're reading at a high enough level to study Canadian politics. Canadian politics isn't meaningless to the people that were rescued by Canadians in Louisiana while Bush had a guitar lesson. What are you doing to help them, big guy? Sitting here on your ass in Korea, drinking soju and banging the locals, insulting one of the countries giving you aid in a time of crisis. Right now Canada looks like much more of a cohesive country than the feudal mess you've got going on down South.
By the way, military plans of attack, I hear, are drawn out with objectives to be gained as part of a co-ordinated operation. On D-Day, the Americans failed to establish a beachhead while the Canadians were pushing inland. Even the Canadians actually fell short of their ultimate objective which was to get to a certain point inland due to German resistance further from the beaches. We admit it, why can't you? That would be you, Pligganease, not Americans in general. Canadians were more successful on that day than the Americans at achieving objectives to link up with their US and UK allies. I'd say it's pretty clear what happened, and statistics, numbers and dates do matter. It's only people more concerned with national image and maintaining historical narratives that discard inconvenient facts of history. These people are also known as chauvinists, bigots and ignoramuses. Yes, yes you saw Private Ryan and the Americans were on land within 20 minutes. Fact is, they got blown out of the water for 24 hours before they even got a chance to touch land. Sad, and it underscores the commitment of America to the war effort, but true. We appreciate it and are willing to discuss it in the spirit of fairness, you just want to ride rough-shod over years of historical research and say it doesn't fit in with stories your Mommy told you and the USA is the only country in the world that matters. I'm sure you're very popular with Koreans.

Canadian politics is a lot of fun actually. Having more than two parties is refreshing, the two languages in parliament is fun, the slight similarites to those in Engand is interesting, and a lot of people elected are quite young. Objectively Canadian politics are quite interesting compared to most countries. |

I paid a visit to Apgugeong this past week and saw a guy that looked a lot like you in the window at Starbucks. I almost walked up and said "hello" to you, but since I have such a big thing for you, I was shy. |

Oh good, then you can confirm that he is in fact a big black gay Muslim Canuck.
You know, BBE, I think you said you read the forums for a while before joining and posting, so I don't think you'd be surprised to hear that- given all the socks and trolls and various others who are not what they claim to be- I have wondered at times if you are really who you say you are...
but of course that doesn't really matter here because it's not so much who you are but what you write, and your posts have been insightful and thought-provoking and the farthest thing from trolling or inciting. |

Yeah, I was thinking about that, that's about as minority as you can get. Being a Sufi would do it even more. Bulsajo, where do you live? |

Yu Bum Sik, you may not have heard this, but all radio stations that I am aware of in Canada have taken that song out of rotation out of respect.
I can only guess that the Hip won't be playing it live either (but I wouldn't know- nothing against them really but I've never seen them live and have no plans to in the forseeable future). |
I was wondering about that myself. Yet another victim - that was a pretty damn good song for about 15 years. |

I did not say what conclusions will eventually be drawn from this assessment. Maybe Bush will be hung out to dry, maybe he'll share the blame with local officials, maybe he'll be completely exonerated. I don't know. |
Nothing will happen to the guy. He could walk out in front of TV cameras in his jockeys, doing all kinds of other ridiculous things daily & he'd still be kept in place.
Haven't you noticed? The higher we go in the political food chain the less accountability there is: clear across the board. Presidents almost always get away with murder.
Anyways, he's almost certain to remain the "appointed" resident of the White House over the next few years & may even serve as AmeriKa's first 3 term "leader" since FDR. Word has it there's an effort underway to change the Constitution.
Now, back to the subject at hand:

Yeah, and I also think that constant references to WWII, as if that proves something about the U.S. or Canada, or France, or whoever, is kind of stupid.
Has no relevance to this context, too.
In any case, since that is sorted out -- and I don't speak for America -- but it's great that Canada could send assets to help, absolutely. |
I was wondering how the thread was so quickly railroaded into a chidlish pissing match as well. One question that leaps out is why aren't major networks such as CNN reporting this? Has anyone seen any other mention of this?
Yes, of course it's only all too ironic that a Canadian Search & Rescue Team all the way from Vancouver was able to get in there & get to work saving lives & providing some humanitarian relief while US bureaucrats, political bumblers, grandstanders & saboteurs were able to bungle & hijack the effort so badly ( or, for that matter: effectively ... depending on what you really think happened & where you believe the blame is best laid ).
The whole thing speaks volumes. Hopefully it'll come up as a revealing antecdote during what we're now hearing is going to be a "Inquiry" of sorts
As more than a few Gulf Coast residents have said over the past week: "Thank-You Canada".

Nah, BBE isn't that unusual, I've had a co worker or two with more unusual origins. Besides, he's got good taste in men ( thanks for the eye candy) |
