I'm looking to upgrade my computer by adding a decent 200g memory. My wonder is, will adding this mean losing my current HD? Allow me to rephrase: If I go to yongsan, buy a 200gig HD and have it installed, will I lose everything that I currently have on my computer and have to start from scratch?
Further, if the answer is "no, you can keep all your stuff" can anyone reccomend a brand or dealer that has served them well. Stats if needed
Pent. 4 3.2ghz
1.35 mb ram
(currently) 80gb hd
Nvidia 5600
Primary use is high powered games, movies, and internet dl'ing. |

No, you can keep all your stuff.
I like Seagate.
Might not necessarily mean you can play high powered games, though. You might need a video card upgrade for that. How much memory is there on that video card of yours? |

oh, my vid card is just fine. I forgot the exact stats(I'm at work) but I'm rolling with Nvidia's number 3 (including the bad ass one that came out last month *drool*). I currently run everything with NO issues (fable, battlefield 2, vampire bloodlines), but I want more me to allow for my bad habits of mp3, movies, and BT games.
excellent thought, seagate...got it, out of curiosity, anybody know the going rate for one of those- 200 gigs? |

Is that the 256 MB card? Shouldn't have any problems at all, then.
http://pc.danawa.com for prices. |

You don't need to have your HD installed- adding a secondary HD is about as easy as adding RAM, or easier if you have SATA. |

I don't make assumptions about people's capabilities but, yeah, it's pretty easy. Are you using SATA or EIDE? |

I hear you, but when somebody talks about bringing a computer to Yongsan to have something installed, that's the perfect time to suggest that they give it a shot, IMO. |

I'm fairly computer capable but I specialize in software for the most part. I was bringing it to Yongsan because I want to get a nice fancy new casing anyway (happy birthday to me), and figured why not let them do it for me. I am happy to hear that its easy enough to do though (should I decide that 280g is not enough- and it may not be down the road...) Thanks for all your help, any particular dealers that you want me to give my business to? |
