They've just hired this guy--as if another Dutchman is the answer to a mediocre side! What's with the ROK that they keep visiting the Netherlands trying to find the next Hiddink? |

I think they did well to get him. He is better than some of the other candidates that were floating around.
I still think Hiddink is a superior tactician though. |

My Dutch buddy says Advocaat is too conservative and at times outright stupid, as seen in his bizarre substitution in Euro 2004 with a two-goal lead against the Czechs. Advocaat subbed striker Robben with an older midfielder even though Robben was causing havoc for the Czechs. The Czech coach later thanked Advocaat for his move while the Dutch press called for his head, asking how could anyone be so retarded. |

Under the absurd pressure the Korean coach works under I wouldn't be surprised if Advocaat is forced out once Korea lose a game everyone else expected them to lose but Koreans themselves. The last coach did a terrific job of securing Korea's world cup place in Germany. Korea's main aim next summer should be scoring a goal or two, and not finishing bottom of their group. Progression to the last sixteen would be a bonus, but shouldn't be demanded of this team. Does anyone else not see the problems Korea are going to have playing outside of Korea, and even Asia? I can see them failing to grab a point. |

Advocaat is an improvement over milquetoast Bonfire (sic). I agree his tactics are sometimes baffling, but he's proven himself to be a reliable manager who gets results. Didn't he win the SPL with Rangers about 5 or 6 years ago?
I've always liked him, and it's good to see him re-emerging from the football periphery. |

I think the group that Korea ends up in in the world cup is vital. If they end up any of the physically strong teams like the central african countries or the north western europeans they will get rolled over.
I would give them a chance against the N and S American teams though (Brazil and Argentina obviously excluded).
Will they be in the second pot for this world cup because of how well they did last time or will they be seeded according to their ranking? this will be a huge factor too. |

They will be in the third of fourth pot because of their ranking I believe. They could get a group with two big guns in. In that case, they are out. Especially considering that they are playing away from home. They probably won't get the refereeing decisions this time either. |

Advocaat was hired mainly because his agent KAM also negotiated the contracts of Coehlo and Bonfrere. PD Notebook, an investigative TV news magazine, did an expose on the KFA and found that KAM has had long-term ties with the association.
I've talked to Dutch people about Advocaat, and the answers ranged from "not sure" to "he shouldn't have been hired," mainly due to his stubborness and last year's stupidity in Euro 2004. Perhaps the carrot the KFA went for was the inclusion of former assistants under Guus Hiddink Pim Verbeek and technical analyst Afshin Ghotbi.
And of course, another disappointing loss in the Iran friendly next week will further worsen the situation. |
