Danawa is a mail order site, and it tends to be cheaper than most of the brick and mortar stores out there. When I'm going electronics shopping, I usually print out the price and info of the item from Danawa and bring it with me. This makes explaining exactly what I want easier, and also works as a bargaining chip when you try to negotiate a price. They probably can't quite match it, but they will drop their asking price for sure, and generally come close.

Don't even try this at the Apple Store though.

I've gotta get one of these shipped from home pronto, just so I can sit with it on the subway and attract sexy korean men who are into electronics.

Sounds great, I guess that answers my question of "Which mp3 player to get?"

Will hit Yongsan as soon as the word goes up here that they're available =)

Danawa has a price comparison service for stores (particularly those in Yongsan), too. Fantastic.

i know people who have and haven't. as with any other pyramid scheme, those who successfully completed the requirements got one (ie. sign up x number of other participants). those who didn't, didn't.

Thanks. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Sad

If there are any Canadians who are doing price comparisons on the NANO:

$307.00 CDN + sales tax.
4GB model of course

2 gigs is huge for a memory stick player. And the price point kills iRiver. You get 2x to 4x the memory for the same price iRiver is charging for a 512mb/1 gig player. The only thing I don't like, what would keep me from buying, is it works on an internal rechargeable. Apple doesn't have a very good rep for players with internal rechargeables. They wear out after a year and they're expensive to replace. I'll only buy a player that works on AA or AAA rechargeables.

I hadn't even heard of the Nano until a student told me about it a couple of days ago. She's in sheer agony that she can't buy one in Gwangju yet! Laughing

At first I thought I'd just go ahead with my plan to buy a Mini since I don't care much about a color screen and I figured the Mini's would drop in price since they're being discontinued. However, I have yet to see any drop in price (The 4GB was still listed at 214,000 at Costco on Saturday), and the more I look at the Nano, the more attractive they are to me.

So, I guess I'll be jumping on the Nano bandwagon pretty soon. The only real question is: Do I buy it here in Korea or suffer through a Nano-less 15 hour flight at home at Christmas and then buy one in the States?

Then you'll never have a unit as small as the nano.

Right. I don't need one that small. I just need one that runs off of cheap, easy to replace AA or AAA batteries. There's more than design when you're buying electronics. Hence the reason PC rules the world and Mac is niche.

Fear uncertainty doubt. Not really. Any rechargeable battery wears down reasonably quickly. Apple doesn't have a great track record for inexpensive battery replacement. Fear? Yes. Uncertainty? No. Doubt? No. It's science.

Have to wait a little longer: -

"Apple Korea said it would hold a press meeting on Sept. 22 regarding the launch of the iPod Nano in Korea, while adding that the new iPod may hit the shelves of Korean stores by end of this month."

Don't have to wait that long...

From very reliable sources, the plan is for Nano to reach Korea in the week after Chuseok, probably around Wednesday.

You'd receive it faster if you order from the online store.

And the delay is not cos of some conspiracy theory, but simply becos they are waiting for the certs that allow them to sell in Korea.
