My company is on the lookout for another English-speaking Java programmer, and I've been asked to assist them in this regard. Normally they would go through the standard recruitment channels overseas, but I suspect they're trying to save themselves the expense of hauling someone here. I also suspect that they're looking for a "paler" face to shmooze potential foreign clients, which rules out India/Southeast Asia.

Anyway, I know there are some geeks here who've been displaced by the dot com implosion so I thought I'd try enquiring here first. Any Java programmers here? My company would require at minimum:

* bachelor's in comp. sci.
* the following sun certifications: SCJP, SCDP
* knowledge of servlets, JSP, and Enterprise Java Beans
* experience developing enterprise server applications
* boozing and general social skills

and the following would be a big plus:

* SCWCD certification
* experience in the telecom industry

The company is located by Seolleung Station. It's a good, reputable company; it's clientele consist of some of the top players in the Korean finance and telecom industries. I'm not sure what they're offering for this position but I suspect it depends on your experience and negotiating skills. I also suspect that if you've become accustomed to teaching wages, you won't have any complaints.

Did the dot com bust really displace that many experienced Java programmers that they had to resort to teaching English in Korea??

I have a Elec. Eng bachelors ...

* I have the SCJP, didn't bother with the SCDP cause there was no point
* Fairly knowledgeable about servlets ... was studying to do the SCWCD before I came over here
* experience developing server enterprise experience (but not in java) ... all the smart money is onLAMP if you ask me
* interenship experience with a telecom company (probably doesn't count) ...

I love computers, but the chances of me pulling 12hr days for a korean IT company, instead of 4hrs days with a hogwon (and possible 5month holiday job with a university) ... absolutely none ..
