A while back I mentioned that I was unable to access CD-RWs I'd brought from home, and someone said it might be 'cause the disk was not closed. now I have some blank disks and want to backup my dying laptop. How do I close a disk once I have it backed up? What else if anything can I do to ensure that my disks can be read by other computers?

For backup? I don't have any regular backup software, just copy the files onto the disk using Windows explorer or in the case of my photo files, Camedia which came with my camera.

okay, so you'll be using Windows to burn your CDs then.

That's probably the first thing to change, but I guess that doesn't answer your question.
I don't use Windows to burn so I don't know where the close disk or disk-at-once options are for it. Somebody else will be along shortly who'll know the answer, I can almost guarantee it.
