Anyone taken hapkido (or in a pinch, Tae Kwon Do) in Cheongju? Can you recommend a club to me?
I've been told they're everywhere, but it's almost like everyone I've talked to about it is just trying to maintain some sort of mystical image of Korea as a martial arts paradise, because no-one will actually tell me where to find one, they just keep vigorously assuring me that they're "everywhere"

Don't know of any specific dojangs, but Cheongju hosts an international martial arts festival every year. I went a couple years ago, and may go again this year. Demonstrations from around the world, including capiera, sillat, military hand to hand combat demos. European and Asian countries very well represented. The best part for me was a visiting sumo club from a Japanese university, which held a semi-formal tourney with a Korean sirrem university club. They took turns in competing rounds of each others' styles.
This year its from October 1st to 7th. |
