because I can't meet my boyfriend and have a date with him Sunday. That's the joy of seeing a bartender...hehehe |
I'm sorry, but oh boo hoo... If you are unable to find something fun to do without your boyfriend on the second day of a three day weekend, well then, that's just pathetic... |

Well, Sunday is his only day of the week off. I work all day and he works all night so Sunday is our date time. When he has to meet friends or family, yes, boo hoo for me. |

Today one of my friends said she will go to her boyfriend's home for Chuseok and she said mine must not care about me since he's not taking me to his house. Other Korean gals are telling me not to worry that it means nothing. One Korean teacher I work with saidher husband didn't take her to his home for a holiday until after they were married. But, I'm still sad...very sad...He took me to his family's home in May so why not Sunday for Chuseok? |
I'm kind of loathe to comment on Korean culture given the incredible pace of change in the last ten years, BUT, yes, back in the day you didn't even think of meeting the family unless starting to plan the wedding. Or get approval. |

Maybe because he knows princesses can't cook and that's all the women do at Chuseok? If you want to go, you could offer to peel the carrots or pound the dough... |
Peel the carrot. Pound the dough. I gotta add those to my list which already includes pull the goalie, beat the meat, buff the banana, choke the chicken, etc.

Maybe his family didn't like you, and they said "Please don't bring home any more princesses!" |

Look, if you bring a 'friend' around on an ordinary day, well, then MAYBE mom and dad will believe it's a 'friend'. But for a young man on Chuseok or New Years you ONLY invite home the girl you want to marry. End of story. On an ordinary day it could be the guys chance to feel out the dynamic of foreign girl and mom/dad together in one room. On the holiday? No way!
I've been to half a dozen houses on Chuseok or New Years, that's fine, that's being friendly to a person who lives alone. But I was invited by co-workers, large age difference photographer buddies, long time female friends, former students (female) and even my vet. In NONE of these cases was anyone going to accidently think we were dating!
You cannot freely invite home someone you are dating, but you haven't already decided to marry, you just can't. It would confuse the rest of the family and cause tension on what should be a close family day. |

It is for families only. Don't worry about it. If you ever marry him you will be wishing for the day that you did not have to go to his parent's house. I love the fact that I work every major holiday. Gets me out of so much boooooooooooooooring stuff.

Gotta disagree, chiaa. I've been to family Chuseok get-together for years before I married my wife. And as loathe as I am to go, once I get there, I usually have a pretty good time. Yesterday, we had 2 huge feeds, we played yoo-no-ree and go-stop, and the family made every effort to include me in the activities, as usual. I also ended up winning 4,000w at go-stop, with a lot of help from Keun-Aboji, even though I still have no idea how that game works (and probably never will).
Give Korean families a chance, people, their hearts are often in the right place. |

Haha- sounds familiar. Chusok totally sucked for me this year; I should've made plans or something. It was my first Chusok since breaking up with my ex (well over a year ago), with whose family I had celebrated the last two Chusoks before. Last year I was in Thailand, so.... yeah, that was ok.
I was pretty happy when the girl I've been seeing lately (not long enough to meet the parents, though) called and told me that she wished she had invited me after all... Aw... |
