Venus is the Goddess of Beauty.
I've always liked her grace, composure under pressure, and think her quite attractive. She's a real lady.

Her sister Serena is the beast! (in more ways than one).
As for Sharopova, I think she's got the Steffi Graf syndrome: when very young she's considered "hot" by many, but she loses mass appeal as she gets older, more so for Sharopova I predict.

The pictures are meant to highlight different sides of the two. I personally find Venus to be a more beautiful woman in several senses, having watched their poise, character and overall presence in numerous tourneys.
But I might've thought otherwise when I was a teenager |

To each his own.. I don't see much difference between Serena or Venus. Both lack class and beauty. Which is not to say that both are not great athletes. Anyway, I think that fat dude who directed that Jackie Chan/Chris Rock movie is dating one or the other.
Sharapova, on the other hand, is a classic beauty. |

Venus is not good looking and she is a well-known, graceless, cunt.

Just when you thought Venus Williams couldn't be less gracious in defeat, she drops a three-set thriller to Clijsters and blames the loss on ... her opponent's poor play. "I think I was playing decent, you know. And she started playing like really bad, and it totally threw me off. She started hitting, like, these really weird shots and short balls and, like, just weird stuff. Just like it threw my game off." Riiight. Presumably, by "weird shots" she means "winners." And, gee, do you think Clijsters' vastly superior fitness had anything to do with the outcome? Even The Associated Press -- not known for editorializing -- weighed in: "[Williams'] lack of graciousness after the match equaled her lack of precision during it."
Venus' stunningly tactless remarks after a defeat have devolved from old news into a comical game of Mad Libs. Here's a handy cut-and-paste. "I played (negative adverb). Plus, I injured my (obscure body part) midway through the match. If hadn't played at (number less than 50) percent of my abilities I would have won." You'd think one of her toadies might explain to her the concept of losing with class. |

No way, the difference is that Sharapova will always be hot and Steffi Graf was never hot except for her butt. |

One stop away from Jamsil, at Mongchontoseong (pink line). Once outside, just cross the street... I heard it's being held in the gymnastics arena/stadium, but don't quote me on it. I'm guessing it'll be clear once you get to the Olympic Park.
Go Sharapova. Williams is the worst sore loser, and even worse bad winner. She had to be reminded by the interviewer at center court after the finals at Wimbledon to congratulate her opponent. It was all me-me-me. Gotta disagree very, very strongly with VanIslander on this one. |

Cool. Any word if it's sold out yet? Was hoping to just walk up to the Park and buy a ticket. |

VanIslander's got a good point there. That Sharapova's a Russky. They start aging at 25 and go downhill FAST. Not unlike Korean ladies in that regard.
Venus/Serena (sorry can't tell them apart) on the other hand, is straight outta Compton. That attitude manifests itself on the court, off the court, in front of the cameras... Too ghetto for me.
I'll go with the Russky. |

did the match happen?
According to the Korea Times, KBS Sky Sports was supposed to air the match live at 4P when I tuned in they were showing a match between them that occurred in March.
Also the KBS sports news and the Korea Times had nothing about it today.
I know they were in town I saw a report on them doing a clinic on last nites news |

Just went to the match, Williams won 6-4, 6-4.
It was indoors, which was good, what with the suspicious weather leading upto match time, and the place was, I'd say, 95% sold out. It's the same arena in Olympic Park where they usually hold rock concerts (saw Linkin' Park, Offspring there a while back...)
I had a good time, but I was left a little disappointed. I guess I was expecting one helluva match, but instead got a blah, unforced-errors-filled match where neither player really shined. My friends and I, chatting after the match, could remember only 4 or 5 exciting rallies.
Anyhoo, Willaims definitely played a better match and deserved to win. Williams looked in disagreement at a line judge once or twice, and Sharapova pointed at the side line with her racket once, before looking up at the umpire, but all-in-all, they both didn't really look into the match - not as I'd imagine a Grand Slam final to be like (which is understandable).
Did anyone else go? Thoughts? |
