OK, well I just ran into my buddies, who were running late. They apparently got arrested last night for gettin whopped by several Korean men.

Basically the story goes.

Friend 1 walking with GF. Random Adjushi's yelling at couple. Then attacking couple. Dragging girl along ground by hair, and stomping on BF(who is about 5'4" and actually south asian himself).

Friend 2 runs to get friend 3. Friend 3 jumps to save friend 1 from attackers(3), then gets re-jumped(liberal use of prefixes) by mid to late 20's K-Men. Friend 2 runs to find someone to help.

Equation, 7 Kmen+2Wagooks in Tuck Position catching boots= 2 wagooks in jail

Friend 1 bruised and battered, GF shaken and disturbed, friend 2 no harm, came back to see friends getting tossed in cop car, friend 3 at least 20 stitches and a fractured knuckle/finger.....

What now....?

Is this getting out of hand.......??

You gotta love Seoul!!! Now there is some action these days. Not that I am condoning violence but damn nothing ever happens here in the sticks. If somebody in LotteMart here spills coffee it makes the front page.

Too bad I am married and have responsibilities .... otherwise there might be a beat down party on foriegners and Koreans alike.

It just comes to show you that you can't win in this country.

I do know that in the last couple of years (Hellios and NANA) this kind of situation is kind of prevailant in Itaewon in certain areas.

I can't comment on Seoul, but here in the 'boonies', at one of the local hofs, some drunk, xenophobic, K-dude decided he was spoiling for a fight... cooler heads prevailed and nothing happened. However, 'If push had come to shove' he would have had the living crap beat out of him by two Canadians, two Kiwis and a K girl (I'm not sure about the K girl) but at least in court she'd be on my side... and her daddy's 'connected'.

Corporal's views on this topic are irrelevant, because as everyone knows, Koreans' reactions to Korean man/Western woman - Western man/Korean woman couples are quite different. This bias is reflected, for example, in Korean advertising, which while often showing Korean man/Western woman couples in romantic situations, _never_ shows the opposite. This is a concrete social bias that no amount of smartass commenting will make go away.

Homer is perhaps lucky (or more likely, obtuse) to have escaped abuse while in Korea. However, he has been in Canada for some time and is out of touch with the definite changed vibe that exists now in Korea.

No, YOU are irrelevant, as are your pseudo-sociological blather and silly conclusions as to who is qualified to comment on what. Shut yer trap.

You being a smartass does not make it pseudo-sociolgical, sweetie.

Why do you suppose we never read about Korean men being beat up for dating Russian or Canadian women? Is it all because you are such angels?

You know, Dogbert, sweetie, if you'd stay on topic it'd be nice. In fact my fork-jamming comment was not at all in reference to the K-man/Western woman *yawn* thing that you boys think is all I ever talk about. (Once again you ASSumed it was). Actually, it was the following three gems:

that were so eye-roll worthy. I didn't single out the authors of those comments, just expressed my distaste, and you felt the need to jump in and say my opinions--which I didn't express---on the subject--WHAT subject?--weren't relevant.

let's face it, many westerners in Itaewon act like jackasses.. no cultural sensitivity whatsoever.

ever wonder why the small western enclave in seoul has the highest crime rate in the country?

not trying to justify random violence.. but cmon, itaewon is a cesspool of negativity. go there at your own peril.

Good post, I'd just alter it slightly to this:

"but cmon, Dave's is a cesspool of negativity. go there at your own peril."

But where else would they go to have their various piles of resentment reinforced? Itaewon gives you the world: Canadians to hate, Americans to hate, G.I.s to hate, teachers to hate, Koreans to hate. Can't get all of that up by Yonsei.

Or can you?!?!?!?!??!!?! Shocked
