I believe all major supermarkets sell anchovies and romaine lettuce.

I don't know if you drive your big truck up to Costco waving your membership card, looking for cases of Caesar salad dressing but it's there! 2 litre plastic Coke bottle size full of it for 8,000 won or something like that.

It is a discusting brand though, and nothing like what you remember from back home. If memory servers me correctly it is from China.

Carrefour carries a "passable" bottled Caesar salad dressing - made in Canada. Sometimes they carry ranch.

No bottled dressing approximates the real zing of a good caesar dressing!

No, it's not Chinese, it's McCormicks from the US. I have a bottle and checked the label against their web site. I think it's just fine but I agree that home made is best.

I'm going to make the dressing myself (the stuff at Costco is just the generic cream stuff), so the thing I'm trying to find is the romaine and anchovies.

I got some nice crisp baby romaine at Carrefour and the anchovies should not be a problem to find. Mmmmm, sounds delicious.

Lets see if I can remember:

Romaine Lettuce
croutons
anchovies
raw egg yolk
olive oil
lemon juice
freshly grated parmesan cheese (regiano is preferable)
salt and freshly cracked pepper

Am I missing anything?

All of this is available, I believe, at Carrefour. Maybe I'll go this weekend. Wink )

IMHO_ Chicken, mustard and other such blaspemy does not belong in a Ceasar salad. And screw the cooked egg yolks. Sounds like a good weekend lunch to me.

Even though anchovies technically are not part of an original Caesar salad, I love them.

You can get canned anchovies at Chinese grocery stores. I bought a can in Bongcheon, west of Sadang on the #2 Green Line. Romaine is harder to find but there are other lettuces that can be substituted.

The Caesar salad was invented by a chef who was improvising with what he had on hand at a hotel in Mexico. In that same spirit, improvise with what you have on hand.

uh..sorry to resurrect an old thread but I thought it was better than making a new one

Where can I find some romaine lettuce? I cannot stand iceberg and the only other kind I've seen is the stuff you wrap samgyubsal in.
I'm near Sadang station but I am definitely willing to travel for some nice fresh Romaine...

if you post stores, can you please post locations with them as well? Thanks!
